Ah! Living in the Dr. Who universe would be extremely exciting I think, assuming I was in a TARDIS. Either as a Time Lord or one of their companions, being able to visit any world, anywhere, any when... the possibilities are endless. And with the pesky communication issue out of way, you'd be able to really interact with the locals.

I've always felt that travel is one of the best things a person can do for themselves, as it broadens the mind and enriches you immeasurably. You can't ask for better travel options than in a TARDIS! Thank you!

Forceline Really??? I don't mean to attack something you care about, but I hated those books! I thought it would be amazing to read a book where the main character had leprosy, as written by an author who knew what they were talking about, but my god! All he did was whine all the time. I struggled through the first one, and only read the second because another argued me into it. Now I won't touch those books as if they had... well, y'know.

I'd really like to know what it was about the world or the books that you found so compelling.

Hmm, the Sci-Fi books I love usually don't have much of a super great universe to live in, mainly because of the big threats looming at the horizont...
But, I guess it would be at least interesting to live in the Dune Universe and I'd surely love to live in the Mass Effect Universe :)

I'm in for Crayon Physics and Awesomenauts+Clunk costume. I'd like to live in the Star Wars universe, that one is probably pretty common. Like many people, I'm sure, I was really into Star Wars as a kid. I wanted to be Jango Fett, despite his somewhat tragic end; he was just really badass.

This was tougher than you'd think. As an inveterate punster, I think I'd enjoy Xanth, but maybe not for the long term. The Magic Kingdom For Sale is perhaps too medieval; the Potterverse suffers from the uncanny valley; on Dragaera humans are second-class citizens; and the world of Spellsinger is just a bit... silly.

In the end, I'd probably go with Known Space; I'd like my future to be just like my present, only better.

Which world do I want to live in? That's... a difficult question, as there are plenty of interesting fictional locales that I would like to see. There's also the question of what I'd be in that locale. I mean, I'd love to see the historical Ming dynasty China, but if that means living as a peasant in that time period? Pass. Same thing with say, Dresden Files' Chicago. If I want to see the interesting parts, I'd have to get close to the action. Except that usually means being in the same place with demons, vampires, and werewolves and really really angry wizards. Not good for one's health.

That said, I have a soft spot for Transhuman Space from Steve Jackson's Games. It's a pen and paper RPG. It's a semi-optimistic semi-realistic SF set in 2100. It has intelligent dolphins, Arab sheiks playing giant robot combat on Mars (think giant-sized Battlebots rather than Battletech), deep water cities, ubiquitous wearable computing, friendly AI, and even a micro-blackhole. Assuming I'm a third wave office worker then, every day of my 100 year life-span would have been filled with wonder. Even more so if I were a fourth or fifth-wave employee. Heck, even the poorest 3rd wave peasant probably live a better life than today's middle-class worker.

Of course, it probably means I have to put up with a memetically designed advertisements customized to my exact data-mined profile 24/7, but that's the price of living in the future.

Hmmm hard to choose.

I think I will go with the Star Trek universe.
The human society has evolved socialy, there is space travel with finding and exploration of new planets, the medicine is at such a high level that all the diagnostic procedures are non-invasive, and hey, you can order food that magicaly appears! Any food. :P

Maybe a lot harsh and melancholy, but I would love to live in distopians like Fallout and Wasteland. I dunno, maybe because my fascination for seeing we, human beings, raising at the same time so much solidarity and aggressiveness in the struggle to survive. Not in, thanks for the giveaway.
