honorbuddy: Aren't you a kid too (ie high schooler)? Not that I'm much older, only 22. But if I remember correctly, you thought that Blade Runner was too slow. I'm kind of tipsy, so I'm not trying to start anything here, just saying. Also, kids can watch The Wizard of Oz, but that doesn't make it less of a masterpiece, or Ratatouille.

I'm 18. I'm talking about kids eight or younger watching going to the movies, giggling aloud even at the serious parts, kicking your seat over and over, and talking loudly to their friends. In other words, a moviegoer's worst nightmare.

Yeah, I'm no adult, but I know how to enjoy a movie... and eight years aren't usually in that equation.
Also, Ratatouille sucked. Talking toys in a love story? Fine. Cute, furry monsters? Also not a bad idea. Fish that go on a quest to find his son? Meh... but watchable. French-accented rats who want to cook? NO.

I have high hopes. (which i'll probably regret).
At first i thought it sounded terrible, particularly given the director (shudder!).
But the more i see of it, the better it appears. I always wanted a post-judgement day terminator movie, so I hope it works out well. Plus christian bale rarely disappoints.
Plus every time that music starts, my heart gets pumped up.
T3 was disappointing, but the ending was awesome. I just think the casting was terrible... john connor in particular was way too whiny... and clare danes was trying too hard to be tough.
Anyone been watching the (probably canceled) TV show?
Its been very hit and miss, but it did at times show signs of awesomeness that made me want to see T4.
I think at times they were too constrained by the IP, and they didn't concentrate on the right characters.. but some of the hints about terminator origins and personalities were definitely intriguing.
So yeah, i'm starting to get hyped.... which i know is a bad idea as i'll be disappointed.
The John Connor in T3 is the same guy from Cloverfield... why am I retaining that useless bit of movie trivia?

Oh dude, I know exactly what you're saying, I hate those people, and the worst thing is they're not just kids, adults also do that kind of shit. For some reason it really bothers me when people laugh at sad parts and stuff, like they're not getting it or something, but I don't mean when the film itself is laughable, then I'll do so myself.

I did, and like I said, the plot's all over the place since Season 2. Too many attempts by the crew to try something new, like (irrelevant) flashbacks into the past and stupid minor plot strings that don't matter at all, and as a result, it just doesn't feel consistent

I'm almost through season 1, and enjoying it, but it does feel like it can't possibly have that much more story to tell. There's a limit to how much you can stretch the same story, given it occasionally feels like a rehashed T2 plot.
Despite T3 being generally poor, I did like the ending.

Wait till you get to Season 2. About 50% of the episodes feel like filler

This is the problem with American TV series, they have approx 23 episodes for a season. It was typical in the UK to have 7. The first season of T:SCC had 9 episodes, which felt short, but not by too much (I heard they ran out of money, hence the ending of the final episode being more subtle. All I can say is, thank god for monetary restrictions, that final scene was ace).
[Should point out I just finished season one this evening!]

British TV shows do it perfectly. They have one or two seasons, then they put the show out to pasture at the height of its' brilliance. That's one of the reasons the American Office is terrible now; they just don't know when to give up.

The unfortunate problem is when American TV bosses say "give me 23 episodes" and the programme makers have to do it, or they don't get on the schedules. The system is flawed.
The UK is no shining example though, many series get milked until they go sour. Thankfully there are a few that decide to stop for the better.
In many ways, its a problem of risk taking. No network wants to risk giving lots of money to something unpopular, and then having a costly ratings disaster on their hands. If something is proved successful, then it is repeated until it no longer is popular.
In the UK, we have the BBC and Channel 4 which tend to take more risks on their secondary channels (these tend to be digital tv channels, rather than the analogue ones), which allows for some quality to be found. We also have channel 5, which appears to broadcast a random selection of things to see what sticks.
Offtopic, anyone have good English series to recommend? The only one which I've watched and enjoyed is The Nanny

Well, what kind of stuff do you like? I started watching The CollegeHumor Show on MTV.com (yeah whatever), even though I'm not into the sitcom thing.
Most english TV is pretty bad. The budget just isn't there to go into many different genres, so it tends to be variations on police/hospital dramas, soap operas and sitcoms.
I'd actually say the US has infinitely better quality series than the UK (with the possible exception of some comedy shows.. ). they have much more experimentation, originality and budget. Its just a shame that the best shows seem to get cut off early.
But shows like 24, LOST, Dexter, Firefly, etc.. wouldn't even get made in the UK.
the good shows i can think of are mostly old: Cracker, Morse, Red Dwarf, Blackadder, The Office, Extras, etc..
Recently.... er.... Dr Who. Life on Mars. Thats probably about it....

The end of S1 and the beginning of S2 are good. then they get totally lost in the middle of S2. Then the end rocks again. The Riley character totally sucks the life out of the middle of the show. (and agent elison is just as annoying).
I felt sorry for the writers, because its a really difficult show to script. They are trapped by the history of the characters, and what we know about the future (T3 included).
The sarah connor actress does a good job, but her character is already fully defined and really has nowhere to go. Basing the show around her was a bad idea.
For most of the first series and a half John is reduced to being kinda whiny, but he actually gets better in the second series and becomes more interesting. But there is only so far they can take him, as he was whiny in T3 too. (:-( )
Plus there is a limit to how many terminators they can have showing up every episode, because (a) it would become stupid, (b) it would devalue them as enemies and (c) they become too easy to kill.
Actually the most interesting characters are the ones created for the show, as they have room for development. But even there its tricky. I really like the Cameron character, and they've done a reasonable job making an intriguing relationship between her and john. But if they change her too quick it seems unrealistic, and if they do it too slow its frustrating. (i guess thats why we got stuck with riley).
The best parts are the evil terminator / JH and the dude from 90210 who turns out to be unexpectedly awesome. I hope it gets another series, as it seems just about to go somewhere. Maybe. If it doesn't get lost again...
