SirPrimalform: Hmm, well then that would be disingenuous considering they said every customer was eligible for one.

Foxhack: They have run out of stock on items before. Maybe they just didn't think it was worth doing another print run.
But that's the point, if they were worried that announcing they were discontinuing them would cause a large number of orders then clearly it was worth doing another print run - something which they should have done considering all of the customers were entitled to them. =/

Or maybe they realized, "Hey, we're losing the rights to have many of these games on sale soon. Since we can't sell the games anymore, then why would we need more copies of the games in stock? We won't be able to give them away"

Dick move. They should've said something...

Or maybe they just didn't want to spend all their Walking Dead money on stuff that would just sit in a warehouse.

Of course they'd be able to give them away, not everyone had claimed their DVD yet. ;)

Besides, we're guessing about stock. They've not even offered that as an excuse, they're still trying to act like it was limited time promotion.
They can probably get away with it by saying you're eligible for the disc rather than entitled.

Well they can try that, but the DVD was listed as a feature. I want my DVD or my money back.

Good luck on that one.

Well they could try and bribe me with something else, but really all I want is my DVD.
Hope I'm not going into dick territory - being annoyed (deservedly so) by the DVD offer disappearing without warning is one thing, but expecting a refund two years after purchasing a digital download of the game because of the "free" DVD no longer being available seems a bit unreasonable to me, to be honest...

I mean, they should've definitely given a heads up about the change of things, poor customer service no doubt; but vice versa, with such a long time span I'd probably be enquiring myself about availability, if I'd still been looking into ordering it six months after purchase, let alone a couple of years. Good luck nonetheless.

Don't worry, it's not what you say but the way you say it that would make you a dick. :P
Nothing dickish about your post.

Around here companies are required to honor gift certificates years later, providing the amount was more than $5 and they haven't gone bankrupt in the mean time.

Seems to me that it's irresponsible of them to not know how many copies they've promised and how many they have; that's just supply management. If they're not doing that, then how do they know who is and isn't allowed to get a free copy?
Yay, a double post.

I guess that's indeed the difference between the indie dev that goes out of it's way to build up the community and good will by basic responsiveness (WadjetEye would be the prime example) and the one that hit the jackpot and seemingly doesn't have to anymore.

It seems the overhaul to their website that nixed the store also messed some other features up, without much warnings or consultation. There's a thread on the DoubleFine forums dating back to September of members of the Telltale community that had bailed and were searching for a new "online-home" after the overhaul rendered the TTG forums "less desirable" (the thread was started by a TTG community mod no less).

Ah yeah, their forums are pretty horrible to use nowadays. I don't mean in a "decent but lacking in features and occasionally broken GOG forum" way, but just... bad. Also it's full of people who only heard of TTG with TWD and don't really remember the nice company that I remember. D;
Money corrupts and all that.

After The Walking Dead made them super popular, all of us who were around before were ... pretty much left behind.
Somebody should've attended this years first Double Fine Game Club - it's an informal, weekly community event where they play a chosen game for a while, share their impressions, and often invite authors of those games for discussion.
Pajama Sam was that first game this year, and Dave Grossman came to both sessions; was a good opportunity to bring these points up to the "man in charge" directly.
