Infinite reserves, but perhaps only in a linear fashion.
akwater: You know... we could go way way way way way back where Romans would let Lions and Tigers and Bears *Oh my* eat religous fundimentalists :p
Or we could just point out to them that these species are inherently atheist and that they should convert them.

Ok, I have Been looking over this topic, I am on the side of the creationists here (digs foxhole)
I am NOT going to debate this, I Just wanted to point some things out i noticed and I also feel like outlining the beliefs, should you feel any innacuracies in their doctrine (not whether you agree or dissagree with them feel free to point them out (What i mean is this: Suppose I say "Athiests believe in god" that is obviously wrong and Should be pointed out)
1: This all Boils down to the existance of God, which (admittedly) cannot be Directly proven by scientific means.
2: This seems to be more about a debate about Philosophy from what I have read, Between Naturalism* and Christian Theism (in which everyone SHOULD know by now) I shall leave this debate to the philosophers/scientists/theologians who are much more qualified than I (I'm a nerd not a philosopher dangit!)
*Definition (I am using the top one by princeton) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1R2ADBF_enUS347&defl=en&q=define:naturalism&ei=Z5DHS__-HcL88AbOp4yFBw&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title&ved=0CAYQkAE
3: Overall If you Believe in God from a Judeo-Christian Theistic perspective (I assume this is the minority on these fourms thanks to the American School System), you believe that God Created the world, World went wrong because man disobeyed God, Things go out of hand very fast, you believe in the story of Noah's Ark, you believe that despite God's best efforts, things went wrong AGAIN (look what he had to do with the Israelites to set them straight!) It turns out that God figured this would happen so he brought Jesus to this world to save mankind from hell, the end is coming (although we do not know when, we do have a general Idea of HOW it will end, and it 'aint pretty) but you are convicted that you and every true christian will be in Heaven in the end while everyone else burns in hell, Knowing this, God commands you to save as many people from Hell as possible. You will recieve your due reward in Heaven along as those who have been saved from hell. To you death is NOT the end. There really is no end, Just a beginning.
4: If you are an Atheist/Secualrist ect..., you believe that there is no God, you Believe that all that is here is what is, what was, and what will be forever (not saying things CANT change....) You subscribe to a "Philosophy of Despair" which pretty much means that all there is is a line with two points, the start point is birth and the end point is death. there is nothing after death (nihilism). So your Perspective is a "Here and now ' (Hic et Nunc) and how you approach your life determines your Philosophy (Be it the Pleasure seeking Epicurian Hedonist, The Thumb-your-nose-at-everything Existentalist, the Man-Centered Humanist, among others) but they all share this "Philosophy of Despair". You Probably believe in evolution and the big bang as an explination for how everything came to be (or you just dont care).
5. the point of this was to provide a primer for those on both sides to the debate on what they believe (again if i have anything that is innacurate (not your opinion)) please point it out

I believe something is out there, I just don't know what it is. Mostly I am a "Man Centered Humanist" practice and live your life how you believe is right for you as a individual. As long as you are happy with your life, more power to you.
It's hard for me to believe in a God that allows cancers, disease, and pestilence to infect his "Chosen Children" It's hard to believe in a "God of love" that allows children to be raped and murdered, and don't tell me it is God's will, according to the good book children are innocent and what kind of deity would will the end of a child's life? What kind of deity blames man before hand for the wrongs of the past, "We come out of the womb as sinners" what the hell have I done? Am I responsible for the crucifixion? My ancestors were hanging out in Germany, I am not responsible for the Romans. Just look at the story of Job, "Cool I'll kill your kids, ruin your farm and health just to prove a point that faith is strong"
Now I am not trying to be "Sacrilegious" or whatnot, just stating why I am leery of the whole thing.

Farthest_Outpost: 1: This all Boils down to the existance of God, which (admittedly) cannot be Directly proven by scientific means.
You imply that the existance of god can be indirectly proven by scientific means, how exactly? Until and unless god is a quantifiable element, it cannot be part of a scientific debate which MUST exclude creationism because it's operating from an invalid initial assumption, that god exists.
The assumption is invalid because there's no way to prove the assumption true or even to get to a stage of reasonable acceptance (where it is the most likely solution based on the math yet is still unproven) so it would be like designing an experiment to see how relativistic velocity affects the tooth fairy, without the tooth fairy to experiment on, you're left with half of an equation and a slightly embarassed feeling when trying to explain the failure of the experiment.
Farthest_Outpost: 2: This seems to be more about a debate about Philosophy from what I have read, Between Naturalism* and Christian Theism (in which everyone SHOULD know by now) I shall leave this debate to the philosophers/scientists/theologians who are much more qualified than I (I'm a nerd not a philosopher dangit!)
And thats exactly where the discussion belongs, in the realm of the philosophical opinion and not being taught as fact. No more so than Voltron
Also I believe the correct phrase is: 'Damnit Jim, I'm a nerd, not a philosopher"

The god from the bible is kind of like that, ordering genocide, human sacrifice, infanticide and the like

I am sorry to read you believe this way as it just disproves you next statement and allows all: murderers, rapists, pedophiles etc. to be and act as they believe it is right for them too. You can't just apply your thoughts to what you perceive to be "good". You must extend that belief to those others also.

You have to understand that God does not allow these things to happen, they are a result of the sinful nature of mankind and are / were never ment to be. God "created" this world in perfection and tried to keep it so by not allowing mankind the knowledge of good and evil. However, it was our choice and now we know evil. It was God's will that we only know good. If you think its hard on yourself, how hard do you think it is on Him. He never intended these things to exist and has done nothing but work his plan to bring about the day when it will be perfect once again. He even went so far as to allow his only begotten Son to die for the sin of this world.

We are all sinners. Adam spoke for us all at the beginning just as Christ died for us all. Can you tell me that you have never sinned. Of course you have and so have I and everyone else that has ever lived except for one (Christ). As for Job, if you read the book you will see that God did not do anything to him - it was Satan. God put certain limitations on his actions and Job was able to be faithful in a circumstance where I myself may not. Read the end of the book - Job realizes he is nothing compared to God and realizes he has no place in holding God accountable. I wonder somtimes who we really think we are to place blame on God as if we - his lowly creation - can actually think we have the place. How arrogent we truely are.

Sorry that you are leery - but when you really search for and find the truth you will see it for what it is. He loves us all more than we will ever know or admit.

But god would have the power to stop it. Knowing it is in your power to stop a terrible crime and doing nothing about it is not right imo.

Lou: I respect your view, I respect the strength your faith gives you. Honesty I cannot say that nothing exists, or that I do not believe in God. Reading what you said makes me think, If it is the sinful nature of man that allows such horrible things to happen..why doesn't he just stop it? If we were "Created" with these inherent flaws how is it anyone's fault but the creator? By your logic, newborns are sinners, how does that make any sense at all? What did we do? If the Adam and Eve story is true I never condoned his actions, I wasn't the Roman that thrust the spear into Christ's side. How am I responsible for it? That is like saying that a son should be put in prison for his father's crimes. As for Job, GOD LET IT HAPPEN. If he is our protector and father, then why would he allow him to be the subject of such a cruel experiment? He has the power to combat Satan, to protect us from his influence and actions, but why didn't he? Having the power to stop a crime, but not trying to stop it makes you just as guilty as the person doing the crime. What did his wife and children do wrong to deserve to die, just by existing? See the flaws of logic there? Of course I have "Sinned" but that doesn't mean I am responsible for Adam nor Pontius.
I'm sorry if this comes off as questioning your faith or the Christian belief system, I am not trying to be offensive or say that religion is wrong. I'm just highly curious, and guess I am a realist.

He could stop it. He could have wiped the slate clean the minute Adam sinned and started from scratch. He is God after all. However, he had a plan already in place before
he even laid the foundation of the world. His plan was and is to redeem mankind. Why? Because he loves us. Mankind was not created with any flaws - God saw that it was all very good. God has given each of us choice, he did not create robots to play with. We can choose to obey or not. Adam choose to disobey and bring upon all the world the curse of sinful nature. We are born with it. When we sin it is our fault not God's. He didn't create it that way and never intended it to be so. Adam started the human race down a path that leads to death and separation from God forever. God himself made a way for us to escape that path and return to the place we were origonally intended to be. Newborns are born with this sinful nature - it is passed on form the father. That is way Christ had no sin nature - His Father was God. He was truely the second Adam. He lived a sinless life and made it possable for the rest of the human race to be reconciled with God. It does not matter if you condoned Adams actions or stood with the Jews who crucified their Messiah. On your own you are a sinner as am I and everyone else. We are condemned for our own sins. Yes he did, and who are we to question. I am sure he knows far and away better than you or I. How do we not know Jobs children would not have gone on to do horrendous evil. Maybe they were all saved and it was time for them to go home to heaven. Maybe he was trying to reach His fallen creation Satan by showing him the faith of another created being. You have not offended me in the least and I agree about it being better to discuss these things in person. Some questions just cannot be answered because they are faith and opinion based, that's the good thing about belief systems is that it takes actual introspection and thought to find the answers for yourself.
As for your question of what I am going to do about my sins, I am going to live my life to the best and happiest I possibly can. Live honestly and strive to live life to the fullest. Because that is what I believe we are meant to do.
