After a week of watching blu-rays of Alien, aliens, predator, predator 2, predators, alien vs predator and alien vs predator requiem, I decided to install my copy of Alien vs Predator 2 for PC and show it to my little brothers they liked it and we searched on info about Alien vs predator HD, unfortunately for us we found out that the game on PC used Steamworks and since no one around the house likes to use steam that left us wondering if tittles with steamworks have any chance of becoming available without it and with multyplayer(AvP HD without MP sucks from what I heard).
When titles is fully integrated to Steamworks, it would mean reworking a LOT of the game, so I don't see that happening - at least not often.
IMO games with Steamworks removed are very improbable. But multiplayer in them would be impossible. You know, someone would have to write multiplayer again and/or make it use another service for connection = too much work for too little gain.
If you're talking about the old 2000 AvP (not the crappy recent one), you can get it off DotEmu unsteamed.

It all depends whether the game uses Steamworks for multiplayer in the first place. Many games only use Steamworks for DRM and achievements and not much else. They handle multiplayer themselves.

Plenty of Humble Bundle and Indie Royale games have used Steamworks in the past but came standalone.

The pirates easily remove Steam so I don't see any reason GOG can't down the line. I would love to see some older Steamworks games on here DRM free like Dark Messiah.

Retail was Steam free, so really no problems with that title, more so as multiplayer is completely dead.

Yeah I remembered that after I posted. There are a ton of other examples though, the thought remains the same.

I was talking about the recent one, why is it so crappy? I really would like to see Steamworks games on GoG DRM-free.

Why not? If there's an old game that barely sells anymore on Steam, then GOG could definitely try to convince the publisher that there's untapped potential for further sales outside of Steam. If GOG also offers to remove the Steam DRM (like they already did with other forms of DRM for other games), then the publisher has no work, they just need to accept the offer and then they can see a new source of revenue opening up.

It's not much different from the process through which GOG convinced many publishers that it indeed makes sense to sell "abandonware". There will be obstacles to overcome, but I wouldn't rule it out completely.
It all depends on how much a particular game is integrated with Steam. For some titles it can be impossible while for others really easy.

I highly doubt it's a matter of GOG offering to remove DRM. Most of the games that have shown up here that have had DRM have had non-DRM versions before, so it implies the publisher is removing them (like Amazon having DRM free Ubisoft games a good 2 months before GOG did).
