TheSkeep: Whenever I get a new game I add it to my steam list so I can use the overlay to chat in game, but when I tried earthworm Jim and mdk with it it does not start up, and along with the game process a separate process called "gog.exe" appears. Whats going on here?
Games that normally wouldn't be XP/Vista compatible need a little boost to get going on those OSes. Sometimes it's with DOSBox, and sometimes it's with that gog.exe thing. I don't know if they do the same thing for each game, but at least in the case of Descent 2, gog.exe is basically just using DOS4GW to run the game. If the game isn't starting up, the gog.exe process might end up hanging around, so you'd have to manually kill it.
On a tangentially related note, I tried adding Descent and Descent 2 to my Steam games list, but for some reason I can't change the icons to the appropriate .ico files in the game folders--it just ends up showing blank icons. I've tried using ResHacker to replace the icons in dosbox.exe and gog.exe (the actual executables that run when you launch the games), but that doesn't work either. Anybody have any ideas?
