spindoctor: The game is micro-intensive, that's for sure. You are unlikely to get 40v40 battles... in fact, if you have let your enemy reach 30-40 units, defeat is almost inevitable. The game is fast, with multiple skirmishes being the norm.
Having said that, the game is still fun to play casually. The placement system is pretty thorough, so you will almost always be placed in the correct bracket and will play against others of similar skill. You can learn from every single match you play, whether you win or lose, and you can use that knowledge and experience to get better the next time. It's a blast to play team games with/against friends, especially if you have voice com enabled. And as always, don't place too much value to winning or losing and you will have fun. If you're the kind who always has to win, then yea, this game can be very demanding... but the game is also good if you're just looking to have fun with some friends or such.

How is it compared to SC1 gameplay wise ? That dosen't seems to have changed that much and I wasn't that bad against the AI (110 average apm), which I found quite effective or at least reactive if you don't used exploits. My feeling watching the vids was that the maps where smaller and that basically you had to storm on a straight line to find your opponent, harass him and destroy him after a few skirmishes. I always preferred big maps where expanding and long term fighting actually made it more a game to like for me than a rush fest.

Honestly, it's still early days in the life of the game, so there are a few balance issues which lead to certain cheese strats and combos to gain the advantage over the opponent. Players will eventually learn to counter them and render them ineffective. What you see now is not how the game will be played a few months down the line.
The gameplay itself is certainly fast, and in general does not lend itself towards long matches, but on the other hand, it doesn't have to be a rush fest either. I've personally had a 2v2 game which lasted over an hour, but most games are over in 20 minutes or so.

Well, I think it's reassuring enough, plus there's going to be a lot of stuff being done with this game like it was with Warcraft III, the only black spot are the future campaigns being priced quite high let's hope they' do not make them compulsory like broodwar.

Narakir: I can't remind the person whom I argued here with about that game... it was a few months (you know I was saying that game was too much expansive etc...) but I need to apologise as it comes to interest me more than I ever tough, so take note if you read me :)
The only issue that keeps me away from this game is it's worth in multiplayer. Not that it isn't good but it looks quite different from the first SC. I've watched a few commented matches on youtube and it seemed that the game was even more about tricks and feints that the first starcraft was, do we get actual "big battles" (Let's say 40 units in each side, 30+ mins of gameplay) in multiplayer ? or does the game only evolve around skirmishes and tricks, that require even more micro management ? Can we have a real fun as a casual player or is it just a game designed for E-sports and very demanding ?

Yes we do get real battles, but the one thing for me that made this game harder was ramps
I am a zerg player, and the possibilities of turtling is just too hard to deal with, especially as Terrans (to me) seem too good...

I will agree with you. I've been a PC game, and SC2 is the first time my friends and I have one common game which we can play together. I have almost 16 friends who have Starcraft II, and skyping team games is an absolute bash!

They will surely be required for league play. Dunno about custom games.
Most of the "cheese" strategies aren't really exploiting any balance weaknesses, because this game has very few balance issues right now. They're all about clever use of units and game mechanics, and are very much a gambler's opening.
I've seen some truly excellent cheeses from good players, but most games with competent opponents will evolve into the midgame. It's not all that uncommon to see an army at 200 supply either, although that army could very well be all T2 units like roaches and hydras.
I'd say my average game length is about 15 minutes, which is fine.
Mediocre players typically try to pull off something idiotic like proxy photon cannons and fail miserably versus any competent opponent (although there are exceptional exceptions, like blocking off the ramp of a fast-expanding zerg with proxy pylons and photon cannon).
Beat the cheese, don't fear it.
Any EU tournaments going on?
If anyone silver-plat. on EU servers wanna do some practice games, feel free to add me :)

Hope to see ya and pwn ya. :p
Okay. 9 proxy rax marine / reaper rush is immensely powerful in TvZ or TvP. Immensely powerful. Only a 6-pool can beat it if it doesn't get scouted, and only idiots 6-pool vs. a Terran in 1v1 because you expect that ramp to be closed. Protoss players are shafted if they don't scout the rax before the main because they generally don't go for stalkers very early. If the first 2-3 reapers / marines don't win you the game, just smack down another rax and pump out marauders for the win. And on most maps there's soooo many spots to hide a rax.
