cogadh: I think you misunderstood the "companions being affected" idea. When they talk about your decisions affecting companions, they are not talking about other players, they are talking about the NPC characters that you can collect into your party during the course of the game. Just like with the last KotOR game, your decisions make you gain or lose influence with NPC party members, which can affect their alignment and the story.

Miaghstir: Hmm... yes, I see your point.
Wait? A party, of me and NPCs, in an MMO? Doesn't that make it "everyone playing the same single-player game" all over again?

Indeed, hence another one of my problems with this game. However, I don't think everyone automatically collects the same group of NPCs. There is a select group of recruitable NPCs, so it is possible for people to end up with the same party, but not guaranteed.

cogadh: I will say that having a GOG group is not a bad idea, as most of the people here don't seem to be your typical MMO douchebag type. That might make even this MMO a bearable experience, but it still isn't enough to make me want to give LA and BioWare any of my money.

Miaghstir: Yeah, trouble is, though, that those of us that currently do play MMO games are split over many different games, and even within the same game there's often not only the Europe/Asia/America split, but also different servers within each region - we did try grouping up in World of Warcraft, but the fact that most of us playing that game would have to create new characters (or pay for transfer) made it less than feasible, notwithstanding the unbridgeable Europe/America divide, apparently there was also a try with Guild Wars.

The difference with -those- games, however, is that those have been around for a while. With this one, we'd all be starting from scratch, so we can organize from the very start, make sure we end up on the same servers and what-not, should we choose to. If someone ends up with a character on the wrong server, it's no hassle to go "Whoops. Just delete this guy and start over on the right one." No real time investment lost.

Except for my first sentence: We're already split over several games, this'd require us to offset time from them (or quit them altogether), to invest time in yet another MMO. (Which, incidentally is the same as getting Guild Wars or Age of Conan as well if you're only playing WoW at the moment.)
I am at least willing to try it out though, here's to hoping the servers will be world-wide.
