Well, just finished this.
A few updates on earlier things I commented on:
Pistols might be usable again, but there is no real need to. By default, you can put whatever you want in your primary and secondary slots. So I went with a shotgun/AR combo until mid-late game when I switched to AR/Sniper Rifle (Monolith likes snipers :p).
Nimble can get you nice gear (including his CS suit) and is pretty fun.
There are still a lot of fun quests, although most of them don't have branching paths.
And they definitely took a lot of cues from Modern Warfare 1 and 2. Lots of set pieces near the end, but done with that STALKER style (much less about uncontrollable QTEs and more about hosing people down). The end sequence in particular beat the pants off of every MW2 set piece in everything but the "Holy crap, that was awesome" category. A spoiler-free description follows:
You need to reach a certain point with a certain collection of buddies (and another certain individual). Standing between you and this point are waves of Snorks, Zombies, and Monolith. Let's just say that I burned through something like 30 F1 grenades, 92 7.62x54mm rounds (sniper rifle), 260-ish 9x39 mm rounds (AR variant of the VAL), and 20 some odd medkits. And that was just me, I don't even know how many rounds my AI buddies used :p.
All in all, I don't feel bad about paying 50 bucks for this when I could have gotten it for 20. I wish I did get it for 20, but whatever.

And if anyone can help me find this song, that would be great. Doesn't seem to be in the soundtrack folder of the CD, and I didn't see any info on it during the credits (and it is hard to google the lyrics since I can't make those fancy cyrillic squiggles :p).
