The thought process that went into making the iPad:

Exec: "Hey guys, since everyone seems to like our line of iPhones, I had a great idea....let's make one that's 3-4x larger! Bigger IS better, amiright?!?"

Design staff lead: "But won't it be unwieldy and have crap battery life?"

Exec: *Pushes button....DSL falls into pit of lava beneath board room* "Now where were we again? Ah, yes.....we were talking about how awesome this idea is."

Hell, I'm lucky if my phone's battery lasts all day. The only reason you'd want something iPad sized is if it was 90% battery. I really hope there's some kind of energy-related breakthrough soon as it's one area we're really starting to look quite backwards about. Cars, phones, everything. It's too painfully obvious that we suck when it comes to energy.

I know, right?

We can design exponentially more advanced/compact CPUs/phones/video cards/etc, yet somehow we seemingly can't even design a halfway decent phone/laptop/DS battery.

By now we should be able to power a small country on something that size. It does reek of conspiracy, given that it keeps us consuming more of the expensive inefficient fuel sources we seem to cling to. A breakthrough is long overdue.

Well maybe not a small country, but yeah. IMO, it's because if they/someone else brought a more efficient fuel source/energy storage medium to the market it'd slowly(if not quickly) kill most or all of the older forms of energy storage. It'd also provide stiff competition, and we all know the big energy corps don't want that.
Well that's definitely the last time I do that, not only did I end up making a bunch of unwanted transactions on my credit card, but I seem to have gotten to the point when the sickness/vomiting/headache/dehydration the next morning is x1000 worse than being drunk.... I need to give up this habit
