its out and I just finished it. I'm hoping the brevity of it is not an indicator of the game as a whole because the demo lasted maybe 10 minutes.
Overall it looks pretty fun, its splinter cell enough to be a reminder of the series without feeling like more of the same but the rather obsessive focus on the takedowns and (at least in my first play through and it may well be because of the level) the lack of evasive options makes it a very different style of game.
The one thing I didn't particularly like was the mark & execute system, you have to earn execute points by doing hand to hand stealth takedowns and each execution takes a point so when you run out, you lose the option and have to go stabby to get them back. Interesting way of making it a quick kill system without turning it into the one and only game mechanic you use but it feels somewhat artificial. Then again since the system removes control as soon as you press the execute button, its already artificial.
Sadly the demo lacks the coop option but I can imagine it being a good bit of fun.
Worth a download if you're interested. Oh and if you have a 360. Since its protected by ubisoft's patented "permeable membrane" DRM, they dare not release a PC demo that might give pirates the data they need to break the unbreakable protection...

It's Ubisoft's new strategy. No demo's, higher prices to pay for the DRM and you can't play your game most of the time. It's a plan with no drawbacks.
This game looks good, but I am not willing to put up with DRM that requires constant online connection. Especially after they have already had problems with their servers.
I'll consider it if they strip the DRM in the future, or at least move to something less obnoxious. EA recently stripped securom from the Steam version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 so that it only has Steam as DRM. I could tolerate that if Ubisoft were to do likewise with Splinter Cell: Conviction.

This game looks awesome.
Looks awesome, but not enough to justify buying a Xbox 360 or to put up with their DRM.
FUCKKK NO PC DEMO WTF
Also, I'm still probably going to buy it. Full price. On PC.
Ubisoft, you are officially on my naughty list.

No SecuROM drivers installed: http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2010/01/26/BFBC2-PC-Copy-Protection.aspx
