I have an Asus Motherboard that is over 4 years old on my desktop. Not long ago I began having problems with the windows 7 clock, where it would be late after I turned the machine off and on again.

I figured the problem was the motherboard battery, so I got another battery. Being a lazy bastard I kept myself from changing it until today (the old battery died last thursday, just before I went on a trip, I got back today).

I changed the battery, but now windows keeps telling me there's no audio device installed. My audio is also onboard. What could be wrong and how can I get it back working?

Don't see the linkage between battery and sound, but try reinstalling the sound drivers.

Have had Asus boards for years, and sometimes that Soundmax stuff has issues.

This is freakin' awkard. I had some sound drivers instalations on my machine so I tried following your tip. Both setup programs failed right on start with some message about possibly being already installed. So I rebooted my machine and there it is... sound is back.

Go figure.

Thanks for the tip! :D

All is well that ends well!

As a sidenote, Asus is notorious for calling on ini files that don't include a reference to your os. Sometimes you will need to add a line to the ini file to get them to load :-) Do this only if you know that the drivers in the package ARE the ones that you need.

Sometimes the best bet is to go to their site, pop in mb and os nfo, and get the latest they have. If that fails, get ac97 drivers from realtek, they usually do the trick.

Hehehe... indeed! I'll keep in touch if I notice anything else. And thanks for the extra tips. ;)

No problem. Any time I get issues with drivers, I look at the chip mfr on the board in question, and if not marked, I do a search on the fcc number to get clues.

Most junk is multi-market, so searches on those numbers (if some util won't give you the nfo) often helps.
