Worst part is that s the minimum fine ICO can hand out -.- and they're appealing it! Lets run through what sony did wrong
Unencrypted passwords
Unencrypted addresses
Unencrypted card details...

the list goes on but you get the idea. The ICO could have slapped a 10% of income fine on them for breaches of the DPA hell he could have paid off a chunk of the UK's debt with what he could have fined them! Looks like Tory party politics won again -.-

Interesting, one could say the same for the Information Commissioner's Office.
But the ICO said the fine reflected the severity of the security lapse
So in other words "not very serious at all.", gotcha.
