Is that most people want.

A. Something they feel like they're building - like models
B. Something with many aspects and lots of micromanagement

And I know why I tend to look for this in games is because

A. Obviously a project that you can pat yourself on the for accomplishing is more rewarding than something that was spoon-fed and just a given.

B. Learning a game is part of the fun of model building-like aspect. A lot of people like exercising their intellect through analyzing and dissecting. The reason that Myst was so popular back in the day and the reason why 4X's are on top of most people's lists nowadays.

PC-wise I've found UFO Afterlight and the Total War series to be meaty enough to enjoy dissecting without becoming as overwhelming as something like Europea Universalis.

Also, for the PS2 everyone HATED Unlimited SaGa but the developer made this game with vague instructions specifically for people whom liked to learn new and strange through analyzing and dissecting.

The best thing about Unlimited SaGA nowadays is that it is so old, if you did get stuck, all the foot work has already been done and documented on GameFAQs.

If by games you mean strategy games, and by most people you mean people who hang out on the gog forums then you may be right. Otherwise you're going to have a hard time explaining why the revenue from CoD sequels is higher then the GDP of Lichtenstein.

A. I don't give a fuck. I like to play through storyline-based games
B. I hate this and don't give a fuck, either. Management is for losers - well, Syndicate apart, of course....

Sorry, you are as much wrong as you could be :-P

I agree somewhat but defintely sans the attitude. How is management for losers when management applies to everyday life? As long as it's not excessive micro-management I'll give it a shot. I don't mind simcity either.

Sometimes I like to play like that, but not all the time. Like with food, I like a balanced diet of different genres with games, and both old and new. Most people in your case is usually limited to a certain group, like choconutjoe noted.
Hmm...perhaps you're all right. I got the impression that people were mostly looking for RPGs and 4Xs games nowadays but match 3 and hidden object games sell enough that they're in mass spammed production.
I generally look for games with complex rules systems that I can learn to totally break or exploit. This is probably why I never really get interested in FPS and RTS type games, and stick with turn-based strategy and role-playing games. I like having the time to study every move in depth, ranging from character generation to tactics. If that is what you mean by 'dissecting', then I totally agree with you.

And this. I love dissecting games and getting to enjoy the most out of them, and plan my moves for example.

RTS's can be fun, but Turn Based Strategy games or adventure based strategy games are more fun in my opinion, cus you have a chance to plan and act accordingly, and you don't have to worry about practicing 24/7 to have an APM good enough to compete with better players like with RTS games (primarily Starcraft and Starcraft 2).

Yup, that's pretty much what I meant. The type of stuff that exercises the brain a little bit more.
I mean the other games have their place as well but for some us, you can only play so many FPSs where it becomes the same thing over and over and there's nothing new to analyze and discover.
