Well, I thought I had posted a new post in this thread, but I'm not seeing it so I'll try again.

This game passed test number one for being a really great game.

It's 2:42 in the afternoon and I'm just now starting my day because at 5:30 AM as I noticed the sun seeping through the curtains I WAS STILL PLAYING DRAKENSANG!

Yep, played all night and didn't even realize it. And when I did realize it, still didn't really want to quit but figured if I didn't my sleep patterns might suffer irreversible damage so I did quit.

Mind you, other not so great games have passed this test in my experience so nothing has been established firmly yet, but this is an important first step to great games in my experience. My all-time number favorite (for now) was Fallout 3, and I must've literally had a half dozen of those nights with that game. In addition to meeting "other" tests.

So, nothing formally decided yet, but it certainly shows promise by passing this test.

I'll post later whether it passes other tests or not. For now, I want to get back to playing me some Drakensang...
Oh man, this game is..... Can't think of a word.

So friggin' AWESOME yet at the same to so friggin' maddening.

Maddensome?!?! Awemadding?!?!

If they had spent a little more time on the controls and basic movement with this game, I bet the word Drankensang would be as well known as the word "Skyrim" is. I really believe that. It's such a great game, I can't stop playing it, but dayem it gets frustrating sometimes when your character is in a battle continuously running around a tree because you told him to move to the other side of it, but an enemy now occupies that spot, and so he keeps running around the damn tree while a major fight goes on involving the bad guys and the accompanying characters with me.

LOL, seriously, I'm just running around a tree, non-stop, until I paused it and gave myself new orders.

I can just see this happening in real life. 5 blokes battling to the death while some imbecile just keeps running around and around and around this tree. At some point those involved in the battle would have to stop and go Dafuq???

"So ummm... I really wanted to fight, but umm... I saw this tree and thought 'Holy crap, that's the Holy Tree of Muldeus!' Right, so now I'm trying to take a closer look and make sure."

Maybe it's superstition. "Must run around the nearest tree clockwise 5 times to improve my luck in battle!"

Haven't started playing Drakensang yet, but after reading this thread I really look forward to it!! Amd thanks to amok for pointing out the river of time DLC should be installed before playing.

Encountered some more warts tonight.

Finally ready to leave this little town the game starts in, but haven't figured out two things that kept bothering me, one was a quest to find this parcel for this really shady character and the other is this woman has something for me, but I need to give her a codeword and have no clue what it is.

So, after searching everywhere I knew to search, and typing in every word in the English language I could think of, I decided to say screw it and move on and....

A message pops up when you leave this town saying "Are you sure you want leave Avestrue? You will never be able to return."

Great, just great. So I waste more time trying to solve those last two little items, still can't finally give in and click YES I'm sure and it's a world map travel kind of thing where you can have encounters on your way (remember Fallout 1 anyone???). So, I have this encounter, and a screen pops up saying I have three choices.
1) Flee - in which you will return to where you departed from (WAIT, I thought if I left Avestrue I could never come back??? Well, turns out that wasn't exactly true.
2) Fight - Obvious
3) Avoid - Continue on your journey by avoiding the trouble.

Any adventurer worth his/her salt will obviously pick the same one I picked, number two. So, I have about 3 fights with 3 packs of wolves, start to leave the area and the SAME THREE CHOICES appear.

WTF?? I fought everything in that area. I scanned every inch of it. Who else is there to fight? And to test whether I could actually go back, I selected FLEE this time, and boom, back at the inn in Avestrue. I sell my wolfskins, waste some more time trying to solve those last two items, and leave again.

And an encounter occurs in the SAME EXACT PLACE. The plants are all in the same exact place. The wolves appear in the same exact place. And I cleared out completely the same exact place only to get the three choices again of 1) FLEE 2)Continue the fight (WHAT FIGHT!?!?!? I killed everything) 3)continue on the journey.

I pick flee again and find myself back in Avestrue again, and repeat this about five times now.

I don't know if this "encounter" has something to do with one of the unsolved quests so I'm afraid to continue the journey but why else would the encounters occur at the EXACT SAME PLACE ON THE WORLD MAP? And, I get about 15 points each time for each character to spend on all of those talents and stuff mentioned above. I've gotten about 75 points now from my "encounters" and returning to Avestrue.

Very frustrating. The game is not clear at all about the encounters. Why would it ask when you leave if you would like to "continue the fight" when there is no enemies there any more, which gives the player the feeling there's something left to do there. This, along with the way it's the same exact spot, both gives the player the feeling that there simply must be something important here so my only choice really is to keep returning to Avestrue and keep coming back to the encounters.

The game has some really really great assets, but these warts are significant enough that I would bet many gamers would quit on this game, probably MOST casual gamers. You've got to really WANT this game to keep going.

And dammit to hell I really want it. CRAP!!! I'm gonna be stuck in Avestrue forever!?!?!?!?!?!?! HEEEELLLLPPPP MEEEE! (just kidding)
The controls are best if you use WASD for mvement and to rotate QE the camera. Also, make sure you increase walking speed.

I would have rage-quit the game if I couldn't increase walking speed.

OldFatGuy: I guess what I'm trying to say is anyone looking for a casual experience will probably be disappointed. You have to work at this game.
What? Drakensang is a pretty easy game, no character dying, regenerating health, and only four party members. Just because it's not for buttbrething idiots doesn't mean it's complex. It's more lika Baby's first western RPG (not that there is anything wrong with that)

The "word" is a code for items for getting the collectors edition or Preorder bonus. anyway there are more than one and they can be found by googling for it;)
If you do a text search for "keyword" in the static.db4 file in "(drive letter):\Drakensang\export\db" you'll find them too.

OldFatGuy: Snip
You're overthinking things a bit. Regarding the traveling fights, once the fight is over the "Continue the Journey" option is what you want to choose. None of the world map encounters are plot or quest related, so it's entirely up to you whether to engage in them (generally they're just an opportunity to gain a small amount of experience and gather some plants).

As for those two quests, only the parcel is an actual quest. The woman with something for you is handing out items for pre-order bonuses or something like that. You can find the codes if you google around, but the items aren't anything special. As for the parcel, what you're looking for is sitting along the side of the road (map). This is a pretty minor quest, although it provides the opportunity to make quite a bit of money if you hold onto the parcel until near the end of the game (although by that point you'll have more money than you know what to do with).
