...worth mentioning.

I played Port Royale 3 for a couple of days and while I enjoyed it very much I encountered several mishaps that were funny enough to be mentioned here.

By the way Port Royale 3 is a trading/building Sim with a nice Carribean flair.

**********************************************

One of the most prized things to do is to build an embassy in your own town so that the famous treasure fleet from Europe collects all your exotic export products and dropping off new settlers.

Of course most people prefer to just capture them for the money and hopefully if they are on their way home for their "free" goods on board.

In order to capture ships you need sailors which are recruited from European settlers in the city.

So in order to maximize efficiency, I build up my own town and when the treasure fleet arrived I let them buy all my goods at an incredible low bargain price, even bellow production value. They were so happy to drop zounds of Settlers, which I recruited immediately as a boarding crew for my quick corvette warships that left habour, intercepted the treasure fleet and captured it.
Boarded and overtaken by the same settlers they brought into my hometown a couple of days ago.
Of course I got all the wares back and even some big lumbering warships from Europe as well

But Imagine what kind of adventure those European Imigrants must have gone through...

**********************************************

The governors of those city, well those governors don't really get it.
Sometimes, they demand ludicrous amounts of wares to supply their towns production and construction sites. Since I need those wares myself they are in short demand almost anywhere. Thus the governors offer huge amounts of bonuses if I provide those wares and sell them in the market.
Well, I have the wares so I sell them in the market, acquire the bonus, but since its an open market and free captalism rules the Carribean I can buy those wares back from the market a short time after, leaving the town with less wares than before while having made a fortune thanks to the bonus paid by the Govenor.

Another event while playing as Spanish mercenary:

Spain declares war at France.

I acquire a letter of marque to be able to plunder, sink and destroy as many French ships I liked without facing the ire of the other nations.

The Governor of Havana wants me to sink as many French ships as possible in the next 3 months. Each Convoy gives a nice bonus as soons as the three months are over.

A couple of weeks later Spain and France agree on new peace terms. My letter of marque obviously expires.

The Governor of Havana doesn't care and still offers my the bounty for any sunk French convoy, even though technically I will be branded as a Pirate by all Carribean powers, even Spain will hate me for that.

Another week later Spain and France form a mutual Alliance.
The Governor of Havana still doesn't care, maybe he holds a grudge or something, he glady want me to sink any French military convoy close to Florida Keys.

Doing so would make me an enemy of Spain and France almost immediately, as my reputation with Spain has suffered tremendously since they have allied themselves with France. When both nations form an alliance you get the mathematical average from both reputations. France hated me fiercely with a vengeance with 0% reputation, while Spain 100% loves so dearly they want to make babies with me.
The Resulting 50% is rather meh, but at least I can visit French ports without being attacked on sight.

That's not all!

After the three long and *mostly* peaceful months finally expire the governor of Havana finally pays his dues and because he is so happy with my perfomance (I was able to sink a lot of Convoy during those two short weeks) my reputation with Spain increases by 5% - Now, since France is their ally I get 5% raise from them as well, ironically for being good at sinking their own ships.

What have funny and ironic moments have you experienced during your play?

Whenever I play Pool of Radiance: Legends of Myth Drannor solo, everyone still addresses my character in the plural: "All of you are welcome here," "Friends, I have news!" and such. I could put it down to the developers not bothering to count heads, except that there's one mid-game encounter where the dialog changes based on whether or not the party size is divisible by three.

So instead it simply appears that Ubisoft never seriously considered the possibility of anyone soloing the game. Considering how overbalanced for the level my PC becomes by level 12 or so, maybe they should have.
That happens in Dead Island too. Everyone constantly referred to me as "you lot" or "you blokes" or whatever. I must admit it was kind of funny, because I I didn't even know that you could play it multiplayer back then.

It becomes somewhat scary when you see all 4 characters in the cutscene and you wonder, where the hell was everybody, I could really used some help back there...
