Anyone have any experience with this? Is there something like a Writer's market or a database like Ulrich's? Also, is there a standard marketing guide for the field? Is there a place to find standard costs of various distribution methods. Business case studies would be especially nice. I'm coming up short in my research.
I'm working on something (not really a game, more along the lines of edutainment in a high interest area). I'm considering self-publishing, too but want to explore all options. If you think any trade publications in particular that would be helpful, let me know about that, too. I'm not especially familiar with any of them.
Serious replies only, please.
edit: I'm planning on picking up Business and Legal Primer for Game Development and Secrets of the Game Business 2nd Ed. So besides those two.

Well my first instinct is to find some examples of software in a similar field or target demographic and contact the publishers, or better yet developers, of those

Did that already. Waiting on responses from most, not holding my breath. Also looked at books by people on said dev teams. And cross-ref'd their citations. Hence, the books above. Most of the stuff I'm finding is absolute crap, to be honest.
Thanks, though.
