Had a hard time finding good games this year. I somehow didn't enjoy games that I should have liked and tried many, many games from genres I normally don't enjoy that much instead. My favourite games this year are:
- Divinity: Original Sin
- Shovel Knight
If I have to pick one of them (which isn't easy), I would go with Shovel Knight. Original Sin had some awesome gameplay mechanics (not only during battle - most skills and stuff were useful outside of battles too), but... the story was a bit lacking, for a RPG. Gameplay was really, really great, but sometimes there was no motivation to play further. Yes, right, Shovel Knight didn't have any real story either, but it isn't a RPG. It tries to be a NES game inspired by Zelda 2 and some of the old NES platformers. And it did a perfect job there! Shovel Knight felt like a "modern NES game". It's my personal GotY.
