Came back from the theater and this movie was good, but I would say not as good compared to his last film District 9.

Mostly because I find the plot and story incredibly, I don't wanna say cliche' but I just know that I have seen this story before. But the action was good and the villian was a psychopathic badass.

My only problem was the acting in that I sometimes cannot hear what anyone is saying, like I really need subtitles. Though not all the time its like that.

All in all its still a good film imo, much more enjoyable than Pacific Rim.
I remember I saw a trailer for this going to see Pacific Rim. I thought it looked rather intriguing, if a bit 'intensely gritty'. Then I saw the director's name and groaned.

I HATED District 9. I cannot fathom why people think it's somehow a revolutionary sci-fi film, or remotely better than any overly symbolic and message driven trash you could get for five dollars in a bargain bin.

So yeah, not going to see this movie. Glad you could muster some enjoyment out of it though!

I never thought District 9 was "THE PERFECT SCI-FI FILM" just so you know, that belongs to both Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan. And if you say that to District 9 and this film than you could say the samething to Blade Runner.

Decker: "Skinjobs. Thats what Bryant called Replicants. In history books he is the kind of cop that called black people the N word"

I facepalmed when he said that.

That seems to be the general consensus - I've not seen it myself. I liked District 9 too, so I might see this when it comes out to rent. Or would you recommend seeing it on the big screen?

To each his own, I really enjoyed District 9. :)

To me, the trailer and the premise of the movie look like they made a dark and gritty adaptation of Deponia. I mean, the story and universe seems to be nearly identical - hell, even the floating city is named "Elysium" in both works.

I admittedly haven't seen the movie, so maybe the actual similarities are minor.

At least Ridley Scott has some range of subtlety, and doesn't make his point by having the most boring opening sequence ever committed to film. Also "Fook".

Obviously feel free to like what you like, but I really can't imagine that this film would change my mind about Mr. Blompkamp's ability, or lack thereof.

"Fok" is how South Africans pronounce it. I guess I'd have to disagree about the opening sequence, but okay.

saw the movie.I enjoyed district 9 but this movie feels odd.it was OK.bit over hyped. now for the new riddick movie......
Really want to see this one. Huge fan of District 9. I'll stay out of here due to possible spoilers, though.
I prefer Blade Runner or Darkstar, those are the Best Sci-Fi's out there, aside from the unaltered yet long forgotten Starwars Triology where Han shot first and finally managed to grab Leia titties in part 3.

Haha, absolutely! From the title alone I thought "Deponia ripoff!" :p

Damn, i thought i was the only one who thought District 9 was an overrated piece of crap. Seriously, it was HORRIBLE. It looked like a small budget movie and the story didn't justify it. I still don't know why people praise it so much. I watched it just because it was supposed to be what remained from the failed Halo movie. Thank God they didn't get to use the license in the end.

And no, i'm not seeing any movie from this guy again. I ignore him like i ignore Uwe Boll.
Loved District 9, and I am very interested to see how the villain is played.

I actually agree with you. There has been very few good scifi movies since back then...certainly much fewer that may become classics on day...

That's exactly what I thought too!!!
