A plane crashes with one hundred people inside. They all find themselves at the gates of Hell. The devil is bored that day and decides to give them all a chance to go to Heaven; all they have to do is play a little game. At the start of the game, the devil will randomly line them all up into a straight queue with each person facing the back of the person next in line. The devil will then, at random, place a blue or a red hat on each person's head. No one knows the colour of their own hat. Each person can see the hat of everyone else in front of them, but not the ones behind. Starting from the back of the line, the devil will then ask each person to tell him the colour of their own hat. Since everyone can hear one another, they must only say "blue" or "red", without any extra intonation. The ones who guess correctly will go to Heaven; the ones who guess wrong will stay in Hell. Before the game starts, the devil allows the group to come up with a strategy to save as many people as possible. Once the game starts, the people will not be allowed to speak to each other.

What strategy will allow at least 99 of the people to be saved?

If they all had the power to grow eyes on the top of their heads, they could just look up and see what color the hat is. They'd also have to have night vision I suppose. It'd be rather dark in there.
