1) non-linearity, in the game you're a no-one and it doesn't try to shoehorn your character into some kind of cinematic-style straight-line
2) the combat is dice-roll, you might not notice it playing but it's true
Morrowind was great because you just get off the boat, fill out the forms, and that's it, no hand-holding, you're just another poor guy with just the clothes on his back.
