cw8: Just curious, other than me and Lowlyhong (we're from Singapore), who else is Asian here, as in born in Asia.
Guilty! :-)

Phosphenes: Is Singapore a territory of China or something? Or are you just saying that we're not able to tell the difference between Asians?
Singapore is a southern province of China if you go by Moses Lim's Under One Roof's quote. Just kidding. I love that show! :-)

KiPhish: This post is really strange lol. But I'm Asian. Oriental is not offensive at all. I always thought of the term to imply Eastern Asia, as opposed to all of Asia.
Yup that's what I thought too.

jesskitten: I was born in Singapore too, moved to Canada like 10 years ago in the middle of Secondary School. Now I guess we're kinda Canadian Chinese, heh.

I did notice some Singaporeans in the From: boxes around here, nice to see! Always been a country of gamers. :P
Nice.
Country of gamers, yah. Coz the island is too small, it's a concrete jungle, so for some of us, there's nothing much to do other than gaming. :D

jesskitten: Oh really? What's happening to them in 140 characters or less? :P About time. Dad packed us up and left cause he was sick of them heh.
Most of Singapore is rebelling against the PAP online, in the cyber world. Whether some of them have the guts to vote against them still remains to be seen.
Elections on 7th May. I hope change happens. I'm sick of them and I can't and don't want to leave(family and friends here).

ChaunceyK: Asians are the real-world equivalent to Elves in fantasy games. :-)

This pic suits all the 4 words you posted: "Asian", "Elf", "Fantasy", "Game"

A lot of people in/from Singapore (including a couple of people I know) are ethnically Chinese. From Wikipedia:
Some 5 million people live in Singapore, of whom 2.91 million were born locally. Most are of Chinese, Malay or Indian descent. There are four official languages: English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil.

------

In 2009, 74.2% of residents were of Chinese descent, 13.4% of Malay descent, and 9.2% of Indian descent.[98] Prior to 2010, each person could register as a member of only one race, by default that of his or her father. From 2010 onwards, people may register using a "double-barrelled" classification, in which they may choose one primary race and one secondary race, but no more than two.

Cambrey: No, Jesskitten said she's part Chinese and part cat.

jesskitten: This mortal gets it! :)

avatar
ChaunceyK: I thought people were Asian, and objects were Oriental? Can you clarify please?
avatar
jesskitten: I may be wrong, but I think Oriental is more a subset of eastern Asia, you have the Indian subcontinent to the west, and bits of Russia to the north, and the Middle East to the northwest (?!) that are all also part of Asia, but not quite Oriental. Maaaay be wrong, though, but that's the way I think of it.

I haven't actually run across much racism over here in Canada.
Well, long ago over there the Chinese of the East were French lol
commendations to the OP for specifying BORN in Asia it gets tricky after that!

How about the West Indies
also: Blasian!

and btw Asians make the best cats

I was born and live in Asia, does that make me Asian? :)

Нет :P
So what's the average amount of car crash incidents over in Singapore? I'd imagine it'd be higher than in the US/UK.

Ah, but do they actually REPORT them?

I mean, I've been to Singapore/Kuala Lumpur/etc a few times and man, these guys are nuts on the roads! SO many dings on every car, it's like... Crazy.

Ever seen the vids of cars running over people walking on the side of the road and even hitting people on bicycles? It's insane is what it is.
Not an Asian myself but I have been described as someone who has some distinct Asian facial features (high cheekbones, etc.)

Then again I have been told that I look like I am French, Italian, Spanish, slightly Native American Indian.

I have no idea why, I'm just your everyday white dude.

Maybe this is due to the fact that when Genghis Khan was having his World Tour on Horseback back in the day he and his band did make a pitstop in what is now known as Poland.

I think you and gamerager are mistaking singapore for some other country.
In Singapore, cars are like luxury items and most car owners take very good care of their cars. Plus, our roads are relatively safe. In my entire life i've never ever seen what gamerager described. Btw, I've been riding my motorbike for bout 6 years now. Never been in an accident.
