Cyberpunk...now THERE'S a genre that has received almost no love from any developer save for Shadowrun. When was the last time any of us actually played a game where hacking, information theft, cyber warfare, cybernetic implants were the main course instead of a side dish a la Deus Ex?

Uplink - well... not with the implants bit... But the other stuff was there :P
I tend to view Sci-Fi and fantasy as the same genre for the most part... Just different words to denote the time period in essence. Space Operas like Star Wars and Star Trek blurred the lines between the two genres by taking the sci-fi tradition of futuristic technology and blending them with fantasy's tradition of world building. But I do agree, most rpg's tend to favor the traditional fantasy view of a middle ages type setting. Almost to the point where an rpg depicting a more futuristic setting is given more praise than it may deserve just because it breaks the mold, so to speak.

Yeah but it was marketed as a hacking sim rather than an RPG. Also, no stats = no RPG :D.

There was also bank fraud. One million dollars at the click of a button going into one of my many, many, many bank accounts :D
MEEEEEEEGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAATTRRRAAAVVEEEEEEEEELLLLLEEEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!!!!!

ahem.

Megatraveller : The Zhodani Conspiracy
Megatraveller 2 : Quest for the Ancients

Both are Sci-Fi RPGs, based on the Traveller PnP RPG series. Released for Amiga and DOS. A bit like Darklands in space, I suppose.

Also, for consoles, Phantasy Star series, which for some reason aren't available on the various download services that sell MegaDrive games.
Aren't there a few obscure russian ones? Something with a prison planet, iirc. And there was "Another War", wich was a RPG set during WWII. Not SciFi, but modern (and not very good).
there's also modern (?) rpg called Dark Secrets of Africa.

it may be some action rpg though

hobbes543: Well there is also Mass Effect... Though from what I hear the 2nd one dumbs down the RPG part in favor of the shooter mechanics. I am currently playing the first one, and it is quite engaging as an RPG.
I think the third one is going to be a bit more in between the first and second in terms of RPG/shooter mechanics.
I want Divine Divinity in Space. That would be friggin' awesome.

Nothing tops Shadowrun for Gensis for that for me. Hacking into a high security database, defeating all the ICE and stealing every bit of important looking data was a thrill, and always fun going to the info buyer to sell it all off for a couple hundred thousand nuyen.

Also, there IS a game I have been reluctant to mention that is an RPG, set in the future/sci-fi setting, and has cybernetic upgrades. It's called Restricted or Restricted Area, something like that. Diablo clone that didn't do so well. There are also the two MMO's, Anarchy Online and Neocron 2, but they suck.

Not Sci Fi, but unique on its own due to the WW II setting:

Another War:

I didn't like it. The horrid german dubb killed it for me after 5 minutes.
