F1ach: I have a good few gog's, but they are mostly replacements for my originals, so if gog goes (hope not!), I'll still have most of my stuff and have to get my ass in gear and hit fileplanet etc. for patches.
I would rather download all the GOG game installers you've bought, and place them into three separate external HDs. That's probably even more secure than the CDs.

Yea, downloading lots of them is quite a lot of work, but I think one of the 3rd party GOG downloaders was supposed to easily download all your GOG games, including all the extras.

Let's just try to agree that not all GOG users try the same exactly the same date, ok?

amok: somebody has buried their head in the sand?

Ohhh - look at this, it was the first hit in google. Globally, there is one single PC game on top 10 sales, also for Europe and America - ME3... And if you did not already know this is the trend, then you have been sleeping for the last 10 years, or living in denial, or trolling.
I don't disagree console games outselling PC games, but... aren't those charts still only retail sales? At least the "About" page suggested so. And even that seems to be just an estimation?

My recent purchase of Penumbra Collection and Amnesia was not included in those records, I'm sure it made a tiny blip!

Do you man that I can copy my gog installers onto another HD and if gog went out of business, they would still work and not have to connect for authentication?

If thats so, ......WOW! I'm going to do that!

Guess what? YES! You are indeed not being serious! :) (I guess you caught me.)

About the VGChartz salez: is PS3 really doing that "poorly" compared to XBox360, or PS3 owners just don't like Mass Effect games that much?

1 X360 Mass Effect 3 1,616,958
2 PS3 Mass Effect 3 498,263
3 PC Mass Effect 3 282,806

PS3 ME3 sales are much more comparable to PC ME3 sales than XBox360 (and again, does the PC version include all the digital sales too, or only retail?), and XBox360 gets all the glory?

Too bad, considering that I'd much rather buy PS3 than XBox360.

And where is Nintendo? One 3DS and one Wii dancing game much later in the charts? Shame on you.

This is the right punishment for EAs "Origin" store. Those fat liars should put a disclaimer up that says "We're sorry, we fucked up Ultima, we ruined Origin Systems but because we are assholes we still use their name!"

I figured gog. installer was like steam, I never gave drm a whole lot of thought tbh.

Thanks for the heads up :)
and this is why people prefer to have games on disk....

It shocks me how many people spends 1000's of dollars on digital products that a company can just hit the delete button and you are SOL..

I wonder what happens to all my gog games if this site shuts down?

GOG games can be backed up easily and require no authorization. Very different.

I am all for an all-digital future, but not with DRM attached. GOG and Amazon MP3 are the way to do it. If there were a DRM free way to get shows and movies I would be their best customer.

They remain on your hard drives and external enclosures that you back up to like you should.
I wonder what happens to all your games on physical media if they decay and you - as with the GOGs - did not make a backup of them?

Additional fun for DRM like "You must have disk X in drive Y"

There is a DRM-free way to get shows and movies and it does have the most customers.

Now if you'd asked if there was a legal DRM-free way...

We've been through this before. If games on physical media decay, then most of us who use physical media and take good care of them haven't seen it.

Besides, there are plenty of ways of creating images of CDs and DVDs that are faithful down to the last bit, including the copy protection. BIN/CUE doesn't cut it, ISO definitely doesn't, but there are other formats.

It's a bit like the FDI format for Amiga games. Lets you archive your games as they are without having to crack them.

Now i begin to see my friends point never to buy dlc, he always said what if they close down the server you can then say goodbye to your money, what happens to games that you buy and get erased from server?

disks don't decay.. though they can break.. and like anything else you own that breaks, if it breaks you must replace.. Opps i dropped a glass and it broke.. guess i have to buy a new one..

I grew up playing games on cartridge, placing a cartridge in a game, is hardly DRM... just like putting a disk into my computer, or x-box.. or what ever...

I just had to log into gog post this...... DRM DRM DRM DRM!!!!
Disks of all types do EVENTUALLY decay, mostly because the additives in the plastic eventually break down which can gradually render the disk unreadable. However, it's a process that usually takes decades if the disks are properly cared for. And of course the disks are prone to damage from heat, water, excessive sunlight, and so on. But depending on the copy protection used (if any) they can be shifted from disk to disk until a newer better storage media comes out, or all the petroleum on earth runs out, rendering humanity unable to manufacture any new plastics and leading to the destruction of civilization as we know it. Or lots of recycling, maybe.

A professionally stamped disc with modern equipment can supposedly last centuries if properly cared for. A DVDR and similar stuff much less so.

StingingVelvet: No one said we don't get games jackass, I said the consoles are where the majority play, and they are.
You should weight your words, asshole.
