I don't have a console and probably never will. They and the games cost to much. I might get a old console though.
Downloaded the first Exiles, they're free and will try them if I can tear myself from the forum and the countdown speculations. :P
Had a look at the roguelike wikipedia link but unfortunately didn't find anything new.
Maybe it's time to have another look at the free/shareware scene? It's a jungle the size of Asia though and I dread having to try to navigate it again...

Sadly enough, there are a lot of shareware games that time has forgotten. Many are terrible but there are some real gems as well and because these were never sold in retail, they can be incredibly hard to get hold of since many bedroom coders just shipped disks by mail and nothing else. At most you may find some old BBS shareware version but getting hold of the retail game may be quite hard.
A sad thing considering there was nothing quite as bad as loving a game and then getting confronted with the "THIS IS SHAREWARE. FOR THE REST OF THE GAME PLEASE FILL OUT THE ORDER FORM" message. Considering most non-Americans had no way to pay internationally, the games were mostly just sold in the US itself.
Yeah. Old shareware is hard to find. :/
Actually I have some fond memories of when the shareware scene was big and everyone seemed to be making all kind of games in their cellars. I even bought some of them by sending snailmail with money or using other kinds of workarounds. It wasn't impossible to get them if you lived in Europe. :)

I really wanted to have Halloween Harry (or Alien Carnage as it was also called - I much prefer Halloween Harry as name) but it was not possible to buy it. My father would have had to order special international checks and the risk was that someone would cash them without knowing who did so, so he refused to do it :( I did buy tons of games from England through mail order though. The Pound was very cheap back then!
Might be worth you having a look at Abandonia Reloaded, they carry freeware games (seperate from Abandonia which is abandonware).
Theres a few games on there that might take your fancy.
True. Some of those buy options looked shady but luckily I didn't get conned. Or I've just forgot. ;)
Darn it's hard to search for good shareware sites. Almost all I find is abandonware.
