Splitting forums inevitably leads to less activity in both, which is generally not considered an improvement. The only reason to split forums is if threads don't stay on the first page or two long enough for anyone to see them.

I don't see a need.

It'd still be good as one could be for dead/offtopic threads and the main one could be for game/gog/game request related talk. I don't think many would mind if offoptic only threads/etc were moved to a subforum.

Honestly as GoG evolves and gets bigger it does need to split the general dumping ground that is the main section. I can only see good things of splitting things into something such as:
GoG News
General Gaming
Off topic
That way not only does it allow some grouping together of common subjects, but it also allows the sites main focus - gaming - to be discussed in a section without random threads appearing. In addition splitting up the site into 3 subsections (or even just two) would in turn allow for a longer timespan of threads on the first page to be visible - this is a great help as it means some conversations, with maybe a more limited participating audience, is allowed more first page showtime and thus more chance to generate discussion.
In addition; for those saying that splitting things up will kill the site - you do realise that we have one forum subsection for every game/series on the whole of GoG already? And thus far I've not noticed any major problems - most of the more rare games have quieter boards - but many of the more popular constantly have activity.

Personally, I'd probably split it:
GOG News
General Gaming
Wishlist
Off Topic General
It's gotten to be kind of a pain to keep track of threads when one forum basically contains the entire realm of non-game specific discussion And even there it sometimes bleeds over like when FO:NV came out and it didn't really belong in the FO series subforum.

And to that point, somebody would need to be moving those posts to the appropriate forum until folks get used to putting them in the right place.
A wishlist forum would go a long ways to solving the problem even without any other ones added.

Hedwards - I agree GoG will need a moderation staff in order to help keep things running smooth (I'm actually surprised to find out that they don't really have a large moderation staff and that most ad spam is dealt with by the rep and like/dislike controls - a feature, which whilst proving effective, is also open to a lot of potential abuse and one which I don't like - at least without a mods hand to give the final judgement).

I am very much for splitting into gaming and non-gaming, those of us not interested in off-topic stuff shouldn't have to wade through all those threads to find the ones related to gaming. I just don't see the argument against it, those not visiting off-topic subforum are the ones who aren't interested anyway.

It would be kind of nice to have a "what's this game" forum, not for the game, but for folks trying to figure out what a particular game was from way back.
