I already started a thread in the Shadow Man subforum yesterday, but I'm too impatient to wait around for someone to see it. Mods, feel free to delete that thread if you want. Here it is.

Anyway, I think the keyboard\mouse setup for Shadow Man is terrible and I want to play it with my Logitech RumblePad 2. However, the game refuses to let me keymap my gamepad.

I've tried both through Logitech's own software "Logitech Profiler", and through the game itself. Mapping through the Logitech software doesn't work as the game seems to override my settings and reassign keys to my gamepad, which I believe might have something to do with the default controller setup in the game's own settings. However, if I try to keymap through the game itself, it only registers the left analog stick. No other buttons register (even though some of them work in-game.) I also tried simply clearing the controller keymap setup in the game, but there is no way to clear the settings, only reassign them (which, as I mentioned, does not work since the game does not register any buttons on my gamepad.)

Anyway, the TL;DR version is - can you tell me how I can keymap my Logitech RumblePad 2 so it functions how I want it to when I play Shadow Man?

Thank you!

A hopeful little *bump* here. :)
Xpadder, Joy2key or Pinnacle?

Smannesman: Xpadder, Joy2key or Pinnacle?
Don't they all do the same that the Logitech Profiler does, though?

You may want to use Motionjoy which is a great tool especially if you have a 3rd party controller (you can emulate any controller to ps2/360 controller). Also it seems that the game does not support both analogues....

Or you can use use a program that maps keyboard inputs to the controller.like Xpadder, which is about $10, but there are free alternatives like Joy2Key as well...

That's what Logitech Profiler does. For whatever reason the game overrides my mapping, though.

Edit:
It's a bit unclear to me - does Motioninjoy work with official Sony PS controllers only? Because I have a Logitech controller. :)

Edit 2:
Well, I found the answer. Motioninjoy will not be compatible with my Logitech controller. :(

Do note that you'll likely have to tell the game to use keyboard and mouse if you tell the controller to behave as if it were a keyboard (sending keyboard keys).

If the game reads controller inputs, the controller needs to read as a controller (meaning, do not tell the Logitech software to send keyboard keys).

Of course, some games have all viable input methods available all the time and won't have you decide on one. I'd assume that these don't really care how the controller is set up, and I have no idea how the game in question behaves.

I did. I set up the controls in-game (mapped all functions to keyboard and mouse), and then I used Logitech Profiler to map keystrokes to my controller. However, even if I map "jump" to "x", and then "x" to button 1 on my controller, when I then press button 1 in-game expecting the main character to jump, he is just as likely to crouch or strife or do nothing at all. Somehow, the game is either overriding or ignoring the keymapping I've done through Logitech Profiler and assigning random functions to whichever buttons the game feels like.

After a few tries I realized that maybe this was the problem, so I booted up the game and decided to try to map the controller through the game itself. However, the game only registers movement in the left analog stick - the right analog stick and all buttons do not register with the game at all, which means I can't map the game properly.

Edit:
Wait. Maybe I'm creating my own problems here. Maybe in-game mapping doesn't register because Logitech Profiler is telling the game to think of my button presses as keyboard strokes, while the game itself is trying to interpret the button presses as gamepad strokes.
Maybe all I need to do is delete my Logitech Profiler Shadow Man profile! I have to try that. :D

I think motion joy pretty much works with any controller. And yes like the I sent you states, you can use the in game remapping options instead of logitech's :p

Yeah, that's what I tried to convey with "do not tell the Logitech software to send keyboard keys". The game is looking for a gamepad input, but none ever comes (the Logitech software, acting as an interpreter per your instructions, sends keyboard input).

Such a simple answer. I cannot believe I didn't think about it. I'm just so used to mapping through Logitech Profiler that it didn't even strike me to map through the game itself. Now I feel like a total dunce.

I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but this has got to be the answer. It's so glaringly logical, I think I just won joker of the year!
