Congratulations DarrkPhoenix, on making the two most sensible posts in this entire thread.
Also, Weclock makes it perfectly clear that it's not the idea of knowing somebody's sexual orientation (or other 'irrelevant' information) that bothers him, but the idea of knowing that they're homosexual. This is the very reason why some gay people are so open about their sexuality - because society so often forces them not to be.

fuNGoo: Well, ladeedah, aren't you high and mighty? Did you forget we now have a black president? He's BLACK motherfucker. We're fucking progressive as shit. Foreigners... psssh!

Lol. You've yet to have a female president though. We had a female prime minister 20 years ago! Israel had one 40 years ago, India 43 years ago.
Honestly, you bloody colonials :D.

Weclock: Perhaps this is only because Microsoft is willing to work with GLAAD, they certainly do not have to work with them. ;)

Nafe: Regardless - she piped up, and stuff is happening.

JudasIscariot: Another special interest group pokes its nose into gaming creating drama from one person. Whoopeee dee do. Can't people keep some aspect of their lives off the net? Sheesh.

If the issue was that she was black rather than homosexual, would it still be just "another special interest group"? Prop-8 proved that there's still a lot of backwards thinking in the States and this sort of thing helps to put it out in the open.

Well I am tired of it all "being in the open". I hear all this crap every damn day. "Look at me, I want attention because of my special interest <insert special interest here> waahh wahh...pay attention to me!". I don't care about these groups. They exist, I exist, live and let live but for God's sake at least keep your interest to yourself because I am not interested.

Uh... because we all know that women are intellectually inferior? Why do you think America is like the most powerful country in the world? I don't think I need to answer that question.

I don't think it's like China at all. ;)

Well that's one perspective. The other is that homosexuals don't always have equal rights (the right to marry, being the obvious one). If they just shut up and accepted it, nothing would change. That may be fine with you - it's not fine with me, it's not fine with a lot of other people. By all means set up a special interest group to complain about the special interest groups, but I'll use my God* given right to ignore you :).

JudasIscariot, I do not care about your love for the Thief franchise. I demand that you change your avatar immediately.

You mean those gold farming h4xors? Sure, when you have a billion people on your team by team stacking, it's no wonder you're winning. Try evening up the teams, you n00bs.

They're not inferior per se, it is just a lot of us haven't found one worth voting for really. I'm sure a woman is perfectly capable of running the country but if the only choice in the last election was Hillary Clinton then you can see that we need better female candidates. Besides all that, the US is still a young country compared to the UK and the rest. By the way, how did ol Maggie Thatcher work out for you guys? I am asking in a genuinely curious way because I have heard and read a little about the Thatcher years and they weren't described in the most positive of terms.

Come on man, he was only taking the piss/trolling.
As for Maggie - peoples opinions on her vary wildly. I'm a wooly liberal so generally I'm not a fan, though I'll admit that she was ever so slightly before my time so I don't know as much about her reign as perhaps I should.

I wasn't trying to start a flame war here, merely giving out my opinion without the self-restriction of one's own speech that seems to be a trend these days.
Another opinion of mine is that these groups will always find something to whine about. Once they get the right to marry , they will complain about not having currency just for gays or something whacky like that. Besides, I have seen videos of these special interest groups harassing voters and even beating up an elderly woman because she had different views than them and she wasn't going around name calling, she just voted differently. I can link it for you if you want.

Alright, let's go back to talking about the gays. These dudes turn me on for some reason.
Attachments:
But did you see what I was getting at? It's a case where everything's okay or nothing's okay.
"I love Thief." OK
"I love Jagged Alliance 2." OK
"I love pie." OK
"I support our troops." OK
"I'm against the war." OK
"I rewrite the works of Arthur Conan Doyle into exciting space adventures." OK
"I teach piano." OK
"I'm homosexual." IRRELEVANT IRRELEVANT IRRELEVANT THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GAME AT HAND
The double-standard is clear. If it was something illegal like "I enjoy kicking cats" or "I'm a lighting director for snuff films" then the objection would be legitimate, but this particular statement is no more or less 'relevant' than anything you'll ever see in a personal bio.
Is it relevant if I get some sadistic pleasure out of blasting the brains out of black zombies?

I'm waiting for the day when the whole homosexuality and whatever else that is being whined about in the world becomes commonplace or accepted. You know, when someone says that they are gay one can reply that's fine but can you play this game with some modicum of skill/run a country/etc. ? Then, maybe then, the world will be a quieter place and its total drama quotient will go down some.
About your above statement, it may be a double standard in action but I also don't shove my love of the Thief series into everything. Yes, I have an avatar of Garret but I don't demand that people like it. I could care less. What the problem is sometimes when someone makes a statement such as "I'm gay" sometimes it is difficult to reply to that without the other party being offended when the reply isn't anything but fawning praise for them being gay. (This is all IMO, of course...)

Yes, fuNGoo, very good. You have mastered the art of being deliberately offensive for its own sake.
I realise that in terms of skill, this is an achievement right up there with 'blinking,' so don't think your effort's gone unnoticed. Well done.
edit: JudasIscariot, you seem to be thinking of something different than what's gone on here. This woman wasn't complaining that she didn't get 'props' for being gay - she's complaining because she was told to hide that she was. She didn't ram her belief down other people's throats, it was exactly the other way around. You two are basically on the same page here. :]
As for the whole 'anything less than fawning praise' thing, all I can think of is that our countries must be very different, because I've never seen this happen. I've never known a gay person who's been upset by not being praised for being gay... but I have known many who have found it inexplicable that some people give praise for it. It looks like we're basically on the same page here too.
