nicolaierdk: I'm afraid to say that some of the people i know have trouble adjusting to adult life because of their ethics. They talk like street punks fresh from the gutter (or some other, smarter algorithm). And some people at my university talks like this "B R B I have two go 2 sec".
The online way of chatting and communicating is so obviously reflecting upon people, even in their everyday life.
Edit: And some people are just mean by nature.

haha, I hear that. I totally enjoy the uni kids to act like that, because if they actually ever visited an inner-city, they'd be in for a rude surprise.
It's just a social fad. Kids want to seem tougher and more adult, so they act like that. Then they run into a real doper, get their butt kicked, or loose out on job/career/educational opportunities because they don't know how to act.
I look at it this way. If your a boss, are you gonna give a job/promotion/big project to someone who can't act respectfully or professionally? I wouldn't risk my reputation recommending some punk.
I believed that this can be traced into the past with racism, class-ism, nations conquering lands and homophobia. I'm not saying these things are gone but I don't believe this attitude is a new thing. The language and how it was delivered might have been different but it's still similar in some ways. This attitude does not have anything to do with politics.

tb87670: Yeah I like this, people are calling me crazy and say I need help because I don't like people tossing vulgarities at me. And furthermore I'm a savage because I want to bash these people if I saw them in real life when they say these things at me. I say anyone who wants to take that and do nothing about it is a bit nuts. Or nutless. Either way about it adjusting to this type culture and allowing it is not what I'm going to do. One person won't be able to do a single thing but I hope 'leading by example' will work in the long run and more people do the same.
EDIT: I had some quotes but they told me they quoted posts that didn't exist...........

And I say anyone who gets so wrapped up in the comments of a bunch of idiots is a bit nuts. Who cares? Who cares what some worthless little tool who you have never met, and probably never will, thinks of you? Why get wrapped up in the pointless jabberings of someone like that?
If you're THAT wrapped up in a game, it's you who needs help.
If you jump over the fence every time a vulgum pecus calls you names, not only you will get yourself an ulcer, but you might be ready for London 2012 as well.

Multiply one worthless, little tool by a shitload, and yes - it is easy to rage about it.
Honestly, the sorts of attitudes some of them express are far below gutter trash. People play games to have fun, not to be incessantly annoyed by some faceless twerp with an inferiority complex. Especially when you're already in a shitty mood and just want to blow off some steam.
In jest, teabagging and throwing verbal jabs at one another is usually fine. Otherwise, it's juvenile and irritating.
When the TF2 medals came out, I had joined a public server right after the update, and there was one guy constantly berating players for not having a gold medal. Anyone who didn't have one was subjected to raisin-brained taunting and abuse.
If that were the case in real life, and he was walking around abusing everyone, most people would probably walk off not bothering with such a twat. But I guarantee that his luck wouldn't have gone far. Shoot your mouth off without regard, and one day you'll do so to someone who will knock your teeth out.

I'm not too wrapped up in the problem, I was attempting to have a discussion about this type of talk leaking into real life from online gaming and chats. Since you don't want to actually discuss the issue then don't make such a useless post and find another thread.

And you know what? A lot of those punks who talk shit online will one day grow up and become much nicer human beings.
You don't have to adjust to anything and you dont have to put up with any abuse, what you can do is maybe just play online with your mates or take a break from the whole thing for awhile. Getting angry is natural, but getting yourself so consumed with rage by what some kid has said online is not good for you or gonna make you feel better.

Not consumed with the so-called 'gamer-rage' more like annoyed that I do have to put up with that attitude in real life. I work at a PC shop sometimes and meet these people. At least half of these kids online don't grow up as you say, and if they do it's after they get a rude awakening. Which means someone had to beat them down or put them in their place at one time or another. That is the issue I want to discuss.

I'm more frightened by passive-aggressive people like you because at least from those jerks I know how to expect and treat them.
I believe games are about having fun, and therefore we should be fun gamers to be around.

Uhhh...no. Sorry you don't agree with my opinion, but it's just as valid as yours. Welcome to an adult conversation.
The issue has a very clear solution...log off. It's just a game...it's nothing more than a game. If you're getting that angry at the behavior of someone else in that game, log off. Reason for anger removed. Leave the ridiculous 'RAGE REVENGE!" fantasies to the idiots.
I have had internet access since 1987 and cannot remember a time when there was no "smack talk." It may have taken place in newsgroups instead of message boards, but what's the difference really?

the_redstar_swl: "I shot him because he wasn't being nice" isn't a very good legal defense in the real world. At best the jury thinks you're crazy and you get sent to a mental institution for a few years and then get to visit a psychologist every week after you get out. At worst they think you're a crazed psychopath and you end up bunking with a 300lb rapist who's got a swastika tattooed on his face.

And in Singapore, you get hanged D:
