Good day everyone,

I must say I am quite happy that there is a place online to buy the old games from my childhood and I have loved every minute since I found this site and downloaded my favorite old games. I must also say that one experience made me quite disappointed and I wonder what others think of this.

Don't get me wrong, this site is great and the discounts they have provided are fantastic, however I find that the site should consider the option of post sale reimbursement. For example, most games sellers give you a limited time (two weeks, one month) to get some money back if the product they purchase goes on sale within that time. For example, BG 1 and 2 complete as well as ID 1 and 2 complete were both 50% off and I purchased them. After less than 2 weeks, the entire D and D line up went on sale. I would have loved to get the whole series to play, considering I paid $20 for the 4 games, and the whole serious was less than $22. When I went to look into the rest of the games, the site had removed my current owned games, and then said I had to pay $14 for the rest of the group.

Again, I would like to reiterate that I appreciate the site for what it provides, and I appreciate the fact that I can relive my childhood, however I have to admit feeling a bit frustrated with how this situation played out.

Any thoughts?

What do you mean by removed the owned games? You mean in the bundle sales that the games you already own did not need to be bought again?
You could see them when you clicked below the actual games you were missing on a button "Show owned games" or something like that.
The reason that is handled like this is, that you normally only get the high discount if you buy the complete bundle. But since it often happens that people own some games of such a bundle it would be unfair if they could not get the maximum discount for the rest of the games. Therefore they are already taken into account and just hidden (under the button) and the sale page to show that you don't need to buy them again.

Hm, interesting. I didn't even know that - maybe because I buy from GOG 99.9% of the time now.

It doesn't seem necessary, imo. Everyone knows that it can be a little frustrating when you buy a game and it goes on sale shortly thereafter but shit happens. There are reasons why lots of people wait for games to go on sale before buying them; one of them being that there are a lot of sales and deals here so one usually doesn't have to wait long.

The way I see it, if you pay a certain price for a game, that's what it's worth to you, no? Maybe I'm too indifferent but I've often bought games at a certain price only to see them even cheaper only a day later, it's not really a problem as I was willing to pay whatever the price was when I did.
GOG already has a money back guarantee, store credit for regionally priced games and they are apparently working on a time machine.

I understand what you mean, but that was not the issue at hand. I am aware that they removed the ones I own and discounted the rest. What I have an issue with is that I literally just purchased BG1/2 and ID1/2 for $20 and then the entire group (including BG and ID games) is on sale for the same price I paid for just the 4 games. For example, if I had waited for like 12 days, I could have purchased the whole series for the price I paid for 4 games. Hence my issue.
You buy stuff full price because you want to play now, or you wait for a sale without knowing when it will be. If you decide to buy now and a sale happens the following week, tough. Giving the money back would mess the whole system, IMO, plus it's unnecesary. If others do so, let them; but it's not a feature I'd expect

If you had waited 12 days, you could have gotten them, yes. But you didn't know that. So you paid more for getting the games right then and there, instead of an uncertain future; and for a price you thought was reasonable (or you wouldn't have bought them). Them going on sale cheaper later on doesn't change that at all.

Thanks for the input Crackpot. I agree with you in part. The part I don't agree with is that this happened for me with the ID games within like 2 days. I don't think this should be an automatic thing that happens 100% of the time, but if someone takes the time to email the GOG.com team with this type of issue, it should not be simply blown off saying "sorry, we don't do that" (paraphrasing). If I had spent more money, I would have been quite upset, in this case, I was simply seeing what the community thinks. As much as I would like to be spiteful and go all "middle finger to the man", I can't because this site is too fantastic. It's just a matter of seeing what others have to say about it.

+1 to you good sir.

I should whine like OP then. Bought Age of Wonders, then bought Fallout 1, then bought Empire Earth and they all had a free giveaway a month or 2 later after i bought them, it felt bad for a second, but then I thoguht to myself, why should I be sad,because I supported a site I actually like

It sounds like you got a great deal to me. Most vendors make you re-buy the games you already had when you buy a bundle. GOG doesn't.

So instead of paying $22, you could pay $14 for the rest of the games.

In the future, you may want to wait to see all of the deals before buying 50% off items -- especially when they go well together in a set.

If you bought the full DnD set, I bet if you asked nicely, GOG would probably send you some credit.
@P1na

Good point, but I still feel a bit bothered tbh.

@Tallima

I did ask nicely and they simply said. (Paraphrase) "we won't be be covering the price difference"

dewtech: I should whine like OP then.
Bit unfair, don't you think? I see no whining, just an observation paired with an opinion/suggestion. Maybe that does count as whining these days, I don't go out much.

Rhokin: ...
One thing I have to agree with, though, yes: Sometimes people buy games, even at full price, only to see them given away for free a day later. It has happened to me before. :D
You get used to it. You learn to either be patient or buy games at full price/50% off because that's what they're worth to you then.

It wasn't a month or 2 though, it was literally 2 days. I'm not saying it has to be done, just that they should maybe consider it is all.
I can see why this bothers the OP. It's a standard practice offer compensation when this kind of thing happens. I can also see why GOG doesn't. For a small shop, it could be very administratively burdensome.

I'm not personally too upset by this kind of thing. But that's probably because I usually wait for serious discounts before buying.

I said this the other day, everyone here eventually gets nailed by getting something right before it goes on sale. I never really understood the reimbursement thing because it really doesn't carry over to the rest of the world; you can't go into a store and demand money back because the pants you bought last month are on sale now. Of course I can understand the frustration when it happens (bought Settlers 3 in here literally 12 hours before it went 75% off), but that's life, and as for this site the major sales can be seen coming a mile away. I bought Icewind Dale EE a few weeks ago full price knowing damn well it was going to be discounted at some point in December, but like P1na said, I wanted to play it now.
"What I have an issue with is that I literally just purchased BG1/2 and ID1/2 for $20"

And that is a problem, because you feel these games aren't worth the 5 bucks each? *stares*
On Steam if you buy a pack (for example I own Saints Row 2,3complete) then you have to pay full price for all. Here at least it gives you a discount for already owned games...
