I am sure he is a fan of this particular song:

Actually, it's a cheap psychological technique, based entirely on

"mood swing"

When you cause a shock, trauma or something like that, the likeliness of positive response is much higher than usual..

There was an experiment, where people who managed to get free from getting a ticket from policemen were much likely to give money to a beggar across the street.

It's just a manipulation technique. She said yes, because he deprived her of ability to say no.

bevinator: She may have been in shock, and was just so glad that he was alive that she wasn't thinking clearly. It seems to me like the guy was taking advantage of her emotional state. The whole thing is just weird.
Yup, this is exactly how it works.

Kezardin: Or she marries him, then seeks a divorce on the grounds of 'mental cruelty' and sues his arse off. (since he seems to have plenty of rubles)
Russia, not USA.
Different kinds of crazy.

Vestin: Countless people have cried as they have realized how much they cared for someone who is no longer alive... and you people criticize a guy who circumvented that ?
Imagine if he truly died in a car crash and she kept wishing it wasn't so. Well, guess what - she got her wish. Memento mori and all that.

Ugh... I guess I'm just weird.
It has nothing to do with him skipping death, it has to do with this being staged. He is a legitimate target in my book.

This sounds terrible. guy fakes fatal accident to test his girl in some sort of sick way and then proposes.
Maybe she is aroused by car accident victims? They made a movie about this:

He did something innovative, made her rethink their relationship and proposed in a way they are both unlikely to forget. Sure - he scared her a bit but I think it was well worth it.
Just look at the pictures in this story. It's heartwarming.
Besides - if she was any less than completely in love with the guy, she would've dumped him on the spot. A risky way to find out... but all the more satisfying when it works, huh ^^ ?

Gazoinks: Unless this is a common form of marriage proposal in Russia and we're just taking it out of context?
well, it is Russia, after all.
