I've burned pretty much all my GOGs to CDs/DVDs, but i was tryingt o install Gothic II on my desktop since it's running a little sloppy on my laptop and i can't seem to do so. I run the installer, file integrity check runs fine and once it's finished....nothing happens. I checked and the installer still seems to be active on the background because it appears on the list of Services....but nothing.

Only way i seem to have gotten it to run was by copy/moving the installer from the disc to the computer itself and then running the installer from my desktop...and even then it took a while to kick in.

Any one have any clue as to why this could be happening?

Most likely something like your anti-virus or perhaps a personal firewall is holding the installer up. Try running one with the scanning disabled and see what happens.
I'll give it atry tomorrow and report back what happens.

Well, maybe it's because the installer needs to unpack some sort of temporary file on the disk/same directory it runs from to do its installing work? Just guessing....
Well, the problem seems to be isolated to Gothic II or only certain of my burned GOG games because i just ran the installer from Dark Fall 2 from within the DVD and it came up and so far, installed perfectly fine.

So far, the only way i managed to get the Gothic II installer to kick in is to eject the disc tray and then the UAC thingy came up <_<
Well...You probably just want/need to disable the UAC (wich is pretty useless in my opinion)
...I don't see your point.

UAC limited me from installing a game a long time ago, was a known problem in the community of that game (the name out of my head right now, sadly :/)

It's been like...1 or 2 years I have UAC disabled ; i'm in informatic school (Quebec's Cegep, if it rings a bell) and I can say I don't know any of my comrades who left it vanilla.

If you don't know who is using your PC...Maybe. MAYBE.
