Well now this could make my recent purchase of a PS3 a lot more interesting and may well justify the conspiracy theories regarding the PS3 dropping backwards compatibility.
Dreamcast is a pretty interesting option, heard a fair bit about games on there being special (in the good way).
Hopefully its true
Uh, there's not to be any PS2 emulation.
Also..
Rez and Marvel Vs Capcom 2 are both dreamcast games...
and as far as I know, they're both available on Xbox 360.
Who says there's not to be any ps2 emulation? It sounds like the plan is to repackage the games as PS3 adapted versions, sort of like what they're doing with god of war but without the flashy graphical upgrades

Weclock: sony said it.

As far as I am aware they were talking about hardware emulation. There is nothing to stop them repackaging certain PS2 titles and releasing them on the PSN.

yup... for example, god of war 1 and 2 are being released on the PS3. They're not emulating PS2 games, but they can re-package the games and sell them again, which is what they're doing on the PSN and in disk format

Exactly. And regardless of whether the current rumor turns out to be true, I would be very surprised if PS2 titles didn't start showing up on PSN at some point. The likelihood of getting Dreamcast games seems a bit more remote, but it would be totally awesome if it actually happened (especially for people like me who've barely even seen a Dreamcast in real life and have lots of Jet Set Radio/Power Stone/Shenmue silliness to catch up on). And seeing as the Japanese PSN even got a few PC Engine games already maybe downloadable DC titles isn't so far-fetched an idea after all...

That one IS getting more work than just shoving it on a disc and calling it a day though, they're talking about basically a remake with upgrades & tweaks rather than straight emulation

How is selling PS2 games on PSN the same as emulation? They can just modify each game they want sell so it works with the PS3. And while Rez and MvsC2 were Dreamcast games, they were both PS2 games also.
Seeing what Sony is doing with the God Of War games, and never bringing back BC, selling PS2 games on PSN was long planned.
Bear in mind that the PSN store in Japan already sells emulated games for the PC engine, so it's only a natural step to emulate their own architecture -- epsecially given that they no longer offer hardware emulation (and lets not forget that PS2 games are still selling).
And lets also bear in mind that no matter how cool this purported content is, Australians and people from other territories randomly selected from the 'spite globe' will probably be screwed out of it for no good reason

No, MvC2 was not a PS2 game. That is, it was a very bad port of the DC game.

Yup. I'm still waiting for my store which is always 'next month'. -.-
Anyway, I always had a feeling the PS2 emulation, in some form, will come. But eh, I still have my PS2. :P
