The fact that the price-tag you put on a game is the only way to assess its value is ridiculous. Someone values a game by playing it. By spending time on it.
And the Golden Age of Arcades had you spend a quarter (at least) for a single play at a game. In the golden days of the consoles and PC games, games often cost more than they do today. Yet, we value them more to the extent that GOG is a business dependent on the residual value of these old games. We would not have enjoyed these games as much if they were free or extremely cheap. Godiva chocolates are so good, in great part, because the price point creates a type of scarcity.

Why is it that 'Free-To-Play' is considered a humiliating failure to MMO games? Time isn't where the value comes from. Time, also, doesn't pay the bills and keeps the lights on.

I'm sure all these game companies going out of business are happy to hear from SimonG that their 'value' comes from the time gamers spend with the game instead of the prices being paid.

Heck, let's just eliminate prices on games altogether. Let's all become pirates! Because according to SimonG, time spent, not prices, are what creates value in games.

My best guess is WoW. Released back at 2004, 12 million players and still growing.

I hate MMOs but if I try to play one I prefer Free to Play and the only micro-transactions that should be in it are features that don't give you an advantage however then barely no one buys them and I guess the company goes under anyway and if there are no micro-transactions and no ads how are they going to draw an income? Ergo F2P means failure or close to it. I bet SWTOR don't make it a year before going F2P and then maybe a few months before servers are shut down.
