Never heard of him, but from what I read he sounds like the Layne Staley of literature and free thinking. R.I.P.

He was a great thinker, and the only portuguese-speaking writer to win a Nobel Prize. I don't know much about Layne Staley though, so I can't compare both guys.
Have you never heard of his book "Blindness"? There's even a movie for it by Fernando Meirelles, watch it if you don't like reading books. ;)
