It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Go to Paypal -> Overview -> Profile -> My Money -> My preapproved payments
Manage the automatic payments, subscriptions, and installment plan payments I send to merchants.
You should be able to cancel the subscription from there. You won't get your money back but it should stop other payments.

Edit: seems someone was faster :)

MonstaMunch: All I have is my email to them from months ago explaining that I'd tried to cancel my account, that I was still getting billed, and asking what I could do about it. All I got in response was what seemed like an automated reply telling me to cancel my account...
How did you cancel? Per E-Mail? How are you supposed to cancel? I never had a MMO, but normally you need to cancel any contract with a signature (fax, scannedm etc.). Guess it is different with games.

That E-Mail is at least something.

I went to the my account thing on the Trion website (which owns Rift), and clicked the link to cancel my subscription. The second time I also tried to remove the billing information. I did think it was weird that I didn't get any confirmation from them, but like I said, I didn't get any confirmation from them when they charged me either, only from Paypal. And yes, they do have my email address, as they sent me one today asking me to join closed beta of their next crappy game.

Still, I'm glad it was easy to sort out with Paypal, that's something good I guess :)

MonstaMunch: ... Thanks again for all the advice, I appreciate it.
You're welcome. Glad you solved it.

Paypal makes the payment automatically for the subscription and the gaming company just receives the payment. They may or may not send you a confirmation email. In your case it seems they were just relying on Paypal notification.

To be hones is your fault because you didn't realized in the first place you are making a Paypal subscription with automatic payment. But I know is easy to overlook that.

I fully realized I was making an automated subscription to Rift, but I assumed it would end when I told it to, or at very least when I sent emails to them explaining that I'd told it to. It's my fault that I didn't make this thread last time they charged me instead of waiting to see if it happened again, and for not knowing how to manage my paypal subscriptions, I concede that much.

Actually, with the information I have, it was the fault of the company. He did what was necessary to cancel (twice!) and that's it. You don't need confirmation on a cancellation as that is a right to influence a legal relationship by unilateral declaration. They should have stopped charging him after that.

That he didn't follow up on this was maybe not the smartest of his moves, but it certainly was his "fault" legally.

The problem was on their part and that is their responsibility. If they wilfully ignored the cancellation it borders fraud.

MonstaMunch: Snip
If they are based in the US, there's no harm in submitting a complaint to the BBB. That at least should get a human's attention on their end.

But I would have thought that if you're not getting a confirmation email then you haven't successfully unsubscribed. So keep submitting support requests -- they do at least provide support, right?

I got a confirmation email from Paypal when I followed the instructions people provided here, that's good enough for me. Yeah, Trion has a support email, but it seems to be manned by robots.
