Clearly she feels socialist too and that's why she's spending as much of her fortune as she can to spread the wealth around a bit. £4000 service charge made me LOL though.

AndrewC: She has money to spend so I see absolutely no problem in her spending them. Would it have been better if she spent them on clothes? Or shoes?
I think at some point luxury spending is insulting to people who live on rice in the middle of a desert. I know the West does not like to talk about that, and usually I am a member of the same cognitive dissonance crew as I eat my oven pizza in air conditioning and play PC games on a 30" monitor. At some point however it boils over into the absurd.

This is absurd.

And if you guys don't agree that's fine.

I don't mind rich people spending money, especially for drinks, and especially for drinks for me, BUT, what I have a problem with, and I think (I don't want to speak for him) StingingVelvet may be a little pissed about, and rightly so, is that the money doesn't mean anything to them and they have zero sense of reality when it comes to how most people have to live. It's girls like this who say brilliant shit like, "What's wrong with the homeless, why don't they just go out and get a home? What are they stupid!?"

Anyone know who Nick Stahl is? A few months ago he left rehab and dissapeared. His wife, despodant (spell) over the possibility that he may not make any more movies thus not make any more money, actually went online and posted a request for people to send money to her so that she could keep her daughter in a ultra expensive Beverly Hills pre-school!!!! I am not even making this up!!!!

If you want to be rich and fabulous and free spending fine. Just take some time from time to time to aknowledge how totally fucking blessed you are. I'm not talking about all rich people. Hell, I'm pretty well off but I bust my ass off for it. No, I'm speaking to the heiresses who never had and never will have to work; you lead a charmed life and you should never forget it.

StingingVelvet: I'm not one to say stop buying video games or nice clothes because there are starving people out there, but $45k for one night of liquor is WAY too far. It disgusts me.

Happy mediums.

Crispy78: She was buying for everyone in the bar though - sharing the wealth!
No she wasn't, she was flaunting her wealth frivolously, something the real real rich (the kind with family money) mostly stopped doing around here a long time ago as better news sources could report their excesses and this made the public turn an eye to them when the subject of taxes and public funding came up.

These days in the US you'll only find noveau riche doing this shit. I.E. daddy earned the money (or themselves in many cases).

Yeah, I find it sickening too. This is the dream of the capitalism, to finally be rich enough to act an utter shithead... *golf clap*.
Personally, I'm happy when the rich spend their money. Yes, there were better ways she she could have spent her dad's money, but at the very least, it was a nice boost to the economy. The bar can now afford to hire more people and pay higher wages, which in turn gets spent on more goods and services.

Well at least she improved the life of the bar owner and the people who waited on her (£4k for service? That must have been a dream come true).
As others have said, would it be better if she just hoarded her money? It's not like she apparently has the savvy to actually invest her money wisely where it would benefit the whole of society, so I don't see how spending it where it'll benefit a few poorer people is so wrong.

What should she do instead? Pretend she isn't rich? Throw her money to homeless people?
to people who hold money dear, I understand that this could be offensive. I think there is too much emphasis on its importance, and I tend to class it as a necessary evil.

Pretty much.

Also give back more than as a token gesture. "I am worth 5 billion and gave a million dollars away I am so awesome!"
Just to play devil's advocate here, but how do we know the spendthrift in question hasn't donated twenty times the amount she spent at the bar to charitable causes in the last six months? I'm not defending wastefulness by any means, but would anyone jump on Bill Gates' back if he drops 45k on a game of bridge with Warren Buffet?

Did you SEE her!?

pseudonarne: *incidentally why is that even a word? Whats the entomology behind it? did they once fly kites for some jewish ceremony or something?
The fact that you are asking this question is very disturbing to me. I'm almost offended because it means that you have obviously never seen the movie Porky's. Well I guess trying to insult Jews is bad too, but c'mon! Porky's is a great movie that I recomend everyone watch. Sure it's a crass teenage sex romp, but it's got style and heart and actual character development. There is a scene where the jewish kid is walking past the group of kids and the "tough" one starts yelling "Hey anyone want fly a kite? It's great kite weather. I wonder if there are any kites around." Then the jewish kid turns around and says "It's not kite, it's kike. You're too stupid to even be a good bigot." Not that I'm calling you stupid for not know the term, in fact it's kind of good that you don't know how wrong you are.

As to etymology, well like most derogatory terms it all comes from the people who you are insulting. When immigrants came to the US they were asked to sign their name. Those who couldn't write were just supposed to make an X. Well many of the jewish faith felt that the X symbolized the cross of christian philosophy so they instead made an O. In yiddish the word for circle is kikel. Or so the legend goes.

Yes. Should I be making an assumption about her charitable habits (or lack thereof) based on her appearance?

I don't really care, wasteful is wasteful.

tinyE: I hope she isn't related to actor Christopher Eccelstone because I love his movies and this may cause me to abandon them.
I really doubt that considering it's Christopher Eccleston. Without the E at the end.

Not that it matters whether they're related though, like tfishell said.
