I'm gonna see it, but not on opening week. My employer offers discount movie tickets for weeks after the initial release.

orcishgamer: I wanted to take the day off work and go see this with my daughter, but it looks like I already have to pull her out of school that week for some less fun reasons. Sadly, I'll have to figure out some other way to go see it and avoid the hordes.

mondo84: I also don't like seeing movies in packed theaters. I'm sure it'll clear up a bit after a week or so, but it depends on how badly you want to see the movie.
Packed theaters are bad, but the real issue for me is standing in line, and in my city that will be a requirement, no doubt.

ovoon: You have described precisely what the critics have been complaining about, and what I am worried about. The movies are going to be bloated. Filled with needless details and scenes that accomplish very little.

One critic I believe said the movie felt like he was watching the extended edition already. It's far too long, far too slow. Most of the stuff is being added in as a sort of "because the fans will think it's cool" mentality, rather than a "this makes for good storytelling and film making" mentality.
This is how I felt about the original movies, let alone the extended cuts or this new trilogy. As someone who never cared about the books or the fiction I went in wanting a good movie and thought they were anything but.

pseudonarne: unless they sing "down down to goblin town" I'm not interested or at least will be mildly disappointed.
I agree. I doubt this new Hobbit movie will be as good as the old animated Hobbit movie.

For the people wondering WTF pseudonarne is talking about.

pseudonarne: that part of the hobbit isn't "epic" its more "epic adjacent". The main characters don't really do those things and we don't get to see 90% of it, Bilbo gets filled in later when they wake him up.
Fair enough, but I somewhat doubt that the film adaptation will go for Bilbo beiing knocked out and then getting the details later. Theyll want to show the battle in detail, with involvement from the characters we spent so much time with.
From the reviews it does look like my buggest fears are happening with the movie. There's simply not enough material for a trilogy in the Hobbit. Dividing it to a two seperate movies was a stretch, but the ideally it should be done as a single movie.

I'm pretty sure he pulled from all the other material, such as The Similarion, in order to fill in all the details of what was happening in Middle Earth at the time. From the perspective of the movie audience from Lord of the Rings, this is a good thing. They don't necessarily know why Middle Earth was in the state it was when that all happened.

Essentially, it's a trilogy that includes the story from The Hobbit, but may not even be primarily about it.
