Hehe, I have an original version of Daggerfall in my drawer, and it works perfectly with my Vista and few patches found here and there... But I've played it far too long to enjoy it anymore

Well, the problem with the freeware release on their site, is that people have to download and extract the file contents, then they have to download and install dosbox, and then configure the game. Most players just want to download a file, click on it, and play away. GOG could arrange something like that, like they did for the free games. : )
Yeah, most people are saying that Bethesda might release Daggerfall for free when the next TES game is released. But one time, last year, I emailed one of the devs at bethesda asking them if they would release daggerfall in any way, and they replied that they werent going to release it as freeware, or source code release, or any other way, in those words. I didnt understand why they were so draconian and final on their statement.

Hmm... I can't imagine a good reason for this. Are they worried that releasing an old game for free might hurt sales of their new products? Has someone involved in Daggerfall refused to allow it to be released?
I doubt we will ever get an answer. It is a shame though.

They seem to have replaced their gaming aspirations with monetary ones. Works for them, sucks for me.

Sure, Daggerfall was broken OUT OF THE BOX. But they had BALLS.... now they are as spineless as the rest of the overly politically correct devs.....

Well, it hadnt occurred to me, but, as someone suggested, it might be a copyright thing. Daggerfall probably includes some 3rd party middleware that they dont have the rights to release with daggerfall. But that would only be the case in a freeware type of release for daggerfall. A paid release, like any other game available here at GOG, wouldnt have that problem.

Hmm... Daggerfall. Possibly the only game i've ever returned to the store. Frankly I thought Morrowind was a huge improvement in almost every way. (except no climbing).
Either way, I'd take Future Shock over this by a long long way...
