Bringing back the best traditions of eXtraterrestrial COMbat!

Xenonauts, the spiritual successor to the classic 1990s X-Com games bringing back and expanding all of their strategic depth and tactical greatness, is available on 20% off on GOG.com. That's $19.99 for the first week!

Xenonauts is a spiritual successor to the classic X-Com strategy games from the 1990s. We aim to improve the graphics, add new content and streamline the interface whilst still retaining all of the key mechanics of the original games. Devoted fans should love this game, but we're also keen to introduce the joys of old-school grand strategy to a whole new generation of players who might not otherwise experience it! In this robust strategy game you control a multi-national military organisation defending a Cold War-era Earth from an alien invasion, using small squads of persistent soldiers to eliminate the extraterrestrials and recover their technology in turn-based ground combat. A detailed strategic layer allows you to co-ordinate the defence of the planet, using your interceptors to shoot down UFOs and researching captured artefacts to learn about your foes and unlock new combat equipment to use on your missions. The game comes with a full MP3 sountrack!

The alien overlords' plan was as simple, as it was brilliant: "wait for the 2014 DRM-Free Summer Sale to start on GOG.com, and conquer the Earth with minimum resistance while everyone is busy tracking the Flash Deals". Stay vigilant, defender of our home planet! Only you can foil the extraterrestrials' scheme and show them that the human race is not to be messed with, in Xenonauts, for $19.99 on GOG.com. The 20% off special release discount will last until Monday, June 23, at 1:00PM GMT.
Wishlisted for now. Just bought 2 UFO games so I'll wait till I play them or for a better sale price or for when I'm able to work again and my gaming budget goes up.

KasperHviid: Compared to the original, they have zoomed the camera out quite a bit. While this gives the player a less engaging experience, it is a price that must be paid to get a much clearer overview of the playfield.

I have a small fear that the developers only ambition was to clone an old game, which I think lacks a bit of ambition. Also, I don't like the graphic much. The original graphic had a cheesy, colorful b-movie style. The new game look a bit like clip-art.

Despite that, the price is the only thing that keeps me away from this baby!
That was a technical limitation of the original. It's like 320x240. Higher res has no drawbacks.
I wonder if the kickstarter backers get a gog key as well?
How does this game compare to XCOM:Enemy Within? I got that game a few days ago and absolutely loved it until late game when it got quite boring (on normal difficulty, will try Classic later later).
Does anyone know if, like the Humble Bundle, GOG has the mac/linux versions available to download. I know they're not displayed, but neither are they on the Humble Bundle site.

Could someone who has already bought it check? Thanks!
Yes yes yes f*** YES!!!! THANK YOU GUYS! Another fantastic game that I don't have to buy on Steam. Instabuy!
Whoa, it's done? I mean, done-done? Out of beta? Too bad the deal with GOG wasn't a thing back during the KS campaign, honestly, i'd prefer this game on GOG. Well, time to dust of my Steam client.

[edit]
Just a clarification, seems i got this through Desura, not the KS. Silly forgetful me.

I have mac and linux DRM-free versions available for download on Humble, but here on GOG (and on Steam too) is only windows version - but according to this post on Steam forums we probably get it soon here too: http://steamcommunity.com/app/223830/discussions/0/540744475365834105/

Anyway, these are only wine wrappers, so you can try to build your own :D - e.g. I tried GOGs version of Xenonauts in wineskin with wine 1.5.31 (+ winetricks gdiplus for installer) and it works quite well (with other versions of wine I have some small font distortions in the texts, but it works too)

Update: just FYI - mac version from Humble uses wineskin and wine 1.7.13 and I have the same font glitches like when I described above (it probably depends on chosen resolution)
linux version from Humble is even more simple - it is only package of windows version (installed to /opt/xenonauts/ and script searching for wine executable (it has to be installed before, whatever version) and then executing "wine /pathto/Xenonauts.exe" - so do not expect any kind of optimalization...

Thanks for the info but I'll wait Gog includes the Mac Wrapper, anyway I read the game needs some more tuning in difficulty management so it's fine to wait some more.

I had the same issue. I bought the Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within/Slingshot pack and loved it, then got incredibly bored, something I never remember happening with my old X-Com games.

It sure is pretty though :P
Thanks! Great release and instabuy!
I kinda wanted to believe that an X-Files game was coming, but this looks like an excellent release. I yet have to play any X-Com game (even though Enemy Unknown has been sitting on a shelf for quite a while), but I like the premise, and the gameplay is right up my alley. Wishlisting for now, because of reasons. (see below)

Siegor: Let me get this straight: There's a summer sale, Xenonauts gets released today and Original sin will be released on June 30th.
What are you trying to do to me GOG?
... Oh dear. I forgot it was coming out in June. There goes my money. ^^;;;

intended or not, that reference was pure gold. i want to believe.. x-files..
this cracks me up little buddy ^_^
And here I was thinking the successor of the original XCOM games was XCOM - Enemy Unknown (2012), which is a pretty similar game.

Ok, low pun aside, this game apparently draws so much inspiration from the original XCOM that it looks like it could be a case of excessive homage (you know, that thing Apple sued Samsung for).

100% intentional, I'm glad someone picked up on it. :D I was a huge X-Files fan as a teenager. ^^
