Matruchus: I must say this game is one of those that you will play for 10 or more hours before you can win one campaign. And you can basically do what you want to do and the game is quite user friendly although it is a bit complex. You can expect plenty of space battles. You start by introducing space faring technology to undeveloped races. But in order to do that you have to fight the blocade around the undevoloped planet in order to reach the droop off point for the technology drop. Then you can try to develop the planet, technologies, economy, you can raid pirate convoys, destroy pirate bases, help build up space forces of that planet, you can help build up friendly ties with other races and on and on. There is basically no limit to what you can do. And mind that Arcen games is known to supporting their games all the time. For example AI WAR is still getting more and more features 5 years after release.

Oh, that I don't forget to mention. Anybody who bought the game can download a new version of the game in the main menu since there was already a new update today :)

Vow just looked on Steam and the game is not released there yet. It says that this game is not available at the moment. Way to go gog!
It's not available anywhere except gog. Arcen gave it to gog early because: "GOG is in Poland and we didn't want to make them have to wait up late for the US store launches."

Good one. But yeah steam seems to be having problems with getting the game on their site.

Oh, yeah and obviously I bought the game here :)

Since you seem to be here though looks like they didn't need to. I don't think it's fair to the other stores really.

I am at home, not in the office :)

graspee: GOG got really lucky with this game. It's been out for what- 7 hours or something now on gog and it's not available anywhere else at all, not steam, not greenman gaming, not humble store, not even Arcen's own website.
I don't think GMG was suppose to get this game today anyway (at least it wasnt listed as day 1 store in Arcen blog post about Last Federation release). The rest is a surprise really as they certainly should get this game today.

I would buy this game straight away but used every cahs I had for games to buy Age of Wonders 3.

Its really funny on Steam. Game is labeled as released and saying not available at the moment - coming soon - lol.

Seems the release is going to be moved on the other stores to some other date :)

No other store is going to get the game till steam delivers since all the other stores are just steamkey delivery platforms at this point - at least for this game.

Its funny that gog won't profit from this. There are just to many steam believers on Arcen games forums. Link to the forum to explain what I mean: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,15249.0.html

Edit:
Ok, as I tought - release date on STEAM has been moved by one day to 19th April :)

Edit:
Game now released on STEAM - realy crazy way to release game :)

Steam just added 24 hours on to their timer before release.

...which was an error apparently and it's now for sale.

Now THIS game looks interesting... Sorta like MOO except with a much more interactive combat system (I haven't played MOO or recall it's combat too closely). Hmmm.. Good to see some very good and interesting NEW releases making their way here. Although within budget I doubt I'd get it right away or during it's initial release. But I'll keep an eye on it in the future.

blotunga: So there is a demo for this?
avatar
Matruchus: Not at the moment but it will be available like for other arcen games. There is data about it from the website of the company where system recquirements are labeled. It is possible that its not released yet cause steam version of the game is not yet relased :)

First game released first on gog. com instead of Steam :)
It isn't actually.I cant remember which games, but there were several which had that honour (there was one on the last 8 months i think). Released hours ahead of Steam. TW2 might have been one of them?. :P

The reason is supposedly that they contractually can't launch on humble until it's on steam and steam is hours late for <some reason>. Not sure if that's the same reason it's not on greenman and their own store.

Whether you think it's a good or a bad thing, it feels like they deliberately gave gog a head start.
No, they got it early because 1.0 hasn't released yet.... not sure why gog would do something so strange but it left me in a very confused state.
This one looks good to me...will wishlist for now.
What I love about Arcen is that in a gaming world where so many companies are afraid to try new things, or break new ground, Arcen gets an idea for a game and then they make that game. It doesn't matter how different the game is or what idea it is. Arcen doesn't make traditional games even when they tackle established genres. There's always something new, off, different about the games. Sure the games maybe could often be more polished or sometimes the design doesn't work 100%, and I'm not saying in anyway that I like every game they've made, but damned if I don't appreciate the effort and creativity they put into their games.

On Last Federation, I've only played for a couple minutes but it's definitely an interesting thing. Again, it's different and maybe that difference will work for some and won't work for others. But I'm pretty intrigued by the options, the lore, and how the games play out each time.

My first game I died because I assumed my ship was uber and challenged the Bolutus leader to a duel. I put up a decent fight but he smoked me in the end. And just like that, the game was over. Now I know next time don't do that.

Game sounds awesome, thanks for posting your impressions. My hesitation right now is I like feel space-based strategies are a dime a dozen, so don't know what to choose ^^ I don't know if I should go for this, or hold out for Endless Space, or maybe one of the X games. I am not in any rush because I am pretty sure I got some space trading, 4Xs already!

Have to say though, that last line in the game card blurb about the glaring monster reminds me of how putting pressure on your population in Stronghold games pays off; nice to see a similar mechanic, it feels underutilized!

Like most Arcen games, Last Federation is really hard to put into one single box. It's a simulation adventure rpg strategy space opera 4x game with turn based and real time elements.

If you took Star Control, mashed it with Space Rangers, and then smashed that with a typical space 4X strategy game, you're kind of on the right track.
