A Bitmap Blast From the Past!

The Chaos Engine, a legendary top-down shooter straight from 1993 with tweaks and updates such as16-directional movement, is available for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

The infernal machine known as the Chaos Engine reaches through space and time and corrupts our world twisting humans into bloodthirsty, armored beasts. It is up to a small task force of top mercenaries to stop the menace and bring the balance back to the planet. There's only one way to achieve that goal, of course--shoot everything that stands in their path. The heroes of this story are almost as scary as the monsters they fight, but they know quite well that some places are too dangerous to go alone. Cooperation is the key to success--double the firepower, double the chances of survival--and success is crucial to humankind's continues existence.

The Chaos Engine, the legendary top-down shooter originally released by Bitmap Brothers in the magical Amiga era, is back and it's better then ever. This faithful remake brings around everything that made the original great--sleek graphics, badass characters, puzzles, and extreme gun combat. Once again (or maybe for the first time), you can play through all 16 classic levels in four exciting worlds, preferably in exciting multiplayer mode. For an exciting nostalgic trip with tons worth of bullets being shot on the way, you can't go wrong with a classic like The Chaos Engine!

Set out to save the world and kick some monster butt in one of the most memorable Amiga-era games, The Chaos Engine, for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

CORRECTION: We're sorry for the misleading original post, but the game does not support on-line multiplayer.
Can anyone compare the classic version with the Amiga one? are they identical or are there differences?
Loved the original Amiga version. I'll wait and see how this compares.
Wishlisted :) Never played this, don't know how I missed it .

They are more or less identical, even down to the "AA version" logo that appears at the start and was originally in the AGA Amiga version. The title screen is a little more responsive than the Amiga version, but other than that (and the aforementioned sound glitches and bridge animation issue), it seems to be a spot-on straight port if you switch off the 'enhancements' and 16-way control.

you mean GOG version has sound glitches and animation issues?

Yes.

It's safe to assume the Steam version has them too.

tbh never heard of it...

htown1980: That doesn't count as a cool release for me. No interest at all. In fact, I hope I can give it away when I buy Guac, I don't like having games I don't want on my shelf (even invisible ones).

jamyskis: That'd be a shame, because it's a damn good game. I've just played it through on my Vita and I can highly recommend it (although I'm not sure how well the superbly implemented touchscreen controls translate to the PC).
Probably not the right forum to ask this question but... its a great game then? I have been looking for something that I would enjoy as much as Cave Story + for a while now and this looks like the kind of game that would do it, I assume it will then?

Well, comparing it with Cave Story+ is like comparing apples with oranges. They're both platformers, but that's pretty much where the similarities end. If you like collectable hunting, games with an offbeat and slightly dark sense of humour and/or puzzle platformers (with a touch of physics). TfS will be right up your alley.

It's not a metroidvania title like Guacamelee if that's what you're wondering - there are fixed levels.

Why are the sys reqs so high for such an old game?
Stop not having Linux versions of things that have Linux versions >:(

Is that something inherent to all versions of the game, or is there online MP present on the version coming to Steam but not on GOG's version?

Never played the original version and I played few of these type of games in the past. How's the difficulty?

it's hard, but really good and entertaining when playing in a local co-op in two people
