This is what an actual saga looks like.

The Banner Saga, a unique Viking-themed role-playing game with solid tactical combat mechanics, beautiful 2D graphics that look nothing like any other modern title, and a captivating heart-touching story, is now available 10% off DRM-Free on GOG.com, for Windows and Mac OS X. That's only $22.49 for the first week.

The Banner Saga invites you to live through an epic role-playing Viking saga where your strategic choices directly affect your personal journey. Make allies as you travel with your caravan across this stunning yet harsh landscape. Carefully choose those who will help fight a new threat that jeopardizes an entire civilization. Every decision you make in travel, conversation and combat has a meaningful effect on the outcome as your story unfolds. Not everyone will survive, but they will be remembered. The game offers you with a variety of over 25 playable characters from 2 different races, human and varl, the horned giants, and your choices in combat will have consequences for all whomever you choose to lead into battle. With the beautifully hand drawn combat sequences and animations, accompanied by an evocative score from Grammy-nominated composer Austin Wintory, the game will immerse you into a fantasy realm inspired by Norse mythology. Make sure to pick this one up, as there are very few modern games as original and engrossing as this one.

Embark on one of the most awe-inspiring journeys that modern gaming has to offer, and take a plunge into the beautiful snowy landscape of The Banner Saga, for only $22.49 on GOG.com. The 10% off release discount offer lasts until Tuesday, February 12, at 10:59AM GMT.
I've been looking forward to this for a while. Although between this and the humble bundle I'm going to be broke.
I ask for the 3rd time! is the pre-order exclusive character(Tryggvi), in this version of the game or not?
Still debating as to whether I should purchase this before the 10% sale ends...

I want it @_@

I might just do it.

Someone, help push me over the edge and force me to buy it!

Buy it. It's pretty. It has a nice soundtrack. It's fun. It's short but has some amount of replay value. It's a narrative-focused turn-based tactics game, and there aren't a lot of those on PC.

Why are you still reading my post? You should be at the checkout page already. Go.

And if you end up not liking it, well, feel free to put the blame on me or something.

How short is it though?

I'll probably purchase it by tomorrow. I just want to make sure it will keep me busy for a bit.

I wonder also if they plan any content updates or additions, though I think I read it already has a patch.

the game reportedly is around 12 hours long and your decisions can shape the game ie different chars can live or die etc. having said that as a backer have to wonder how short it might have been if they had only got the the original 100k only.

First play-through took a bit over 10 hours, second play-through a bit over 8 hours. Goes faster when you're not reading character bios or poking around the map to learn about the world, etc.

KingOfDust:
So yes it is good?

I guess I'll pick it up before the sale is over then.

It's not perfect, has its share of flaws, but it's an enjoyable game. Memorable too, not the kind of game you just forget as soon as you've finished it.

If they step up their game in part 2 and 3, the series could become a classic. It's got the potential anyway, just need a bit more seasoning in some areas, like maybe more character development/interactions for side characters, and more interesting combat areas.

If it was going to come with the GOG version it would have been mentioned on the game card

If we had anything of the sort we would most definitely mention it in the "What's cool about it" section :)

Sorry if we didn't clarify this sooner :/
