A song unlike any other.

The Ballads of Reemus: When the Bed Bites, a comedic fantasy adventure with cartoon graphics and peculiar humor, telling the story of a spiritual predecessor of all of the QA specialists in the gaming industry, is available on GOG.com for only $4.99.

Out of all the clients I ever had Reemus stands out like a unicorn in a hog pen. Or, to be more precise, like a hog in a unicorn meadow. Don't get me wrong--he was a swell guy and all, trying to be remembered by the future generations, like we all do. The problem was, that by any account he should have been known as Reemus the Unremarkable. I mean, when you're just a simple bug-catcher it's not easy to catch a break at fame. Especially, if your dragon-slaying brother hogs the spotlight all for himself. Sure, bedbugs bug everyone in the kingdom, while a dragon will only munch on some sheep and an occasional virgin every now and then, but still--slaying one dragon gets you famous, while squishing a billion insects only gets you a pint of mead and a warm dinner. Not fair? That did not stop my friend Reemus, though. He took a chance and got the best minstrell in the kingdom to immortalize his deeds. He got me. Liam the Purple, the most gifted bard of the bearkind. his deeds. Turns out, his deeds weren't as insignificant as anyone thought, and I made damn sure to immortalize the heck out of them.

The Ballads of Reemus: When the Bed Bites is a fun adventure game inteligently making use of popular fantasy tropes to tell an unlikely story of a man whose destiny was not to become a hero. With fully voice-acted dialog, nice cartoon graphics, tons of good lighthearted humor, optional side-quests, and many clever puzzles, this little adventure gem is guaranteed to bring a smile on your face. Full MP3 soundtrack included!

Help one motivated bug-catcher to secure the place he deserves in folk legends and the songs sung by the tavern fireplace in The Ballads of Reemus: When the Bed Bites, for only $4.99 on GOG.com.

Crosmando: Looks terrible, also GOG is only releasing 1 game a week now?

Fever_Discordia: Its only Tuesday - I'm still expecting a classic release on Thu, something Microprose and, more specifically, Sid Meier related (especially Sid Meier related I mean, as everything Microprose is a BIT Meier related, him being co-founder and all!) as I mentioned in another thread...
Mechwarrior?
avatar
PMIK: Sweet spreadsheet! However, it looks like we now need to add a "genre" column too ;)
avatar
Niggles: You can volunteer to do it :D
Yeah I could...but then again ... I am pretty lazy...
I think I'll get this in a GOG promo bundle in the future. Somehow I missed the Royal Mumble Bumble Jubilee Bee Extravaganza bundle where this was originally released. Maybe I was sleeping, or out of town, back when it was active.

JudasIscariot: SOTS: The Pit Gold is more of a roguelike to me than an actual RPG :D

JMich: The rule of thumb I use to say if a game is an RPG is whether you can modify your stats or not. In more recent years, it has been moved to RPG Elements, depending on how much the stats matter.

As for the release dates, you still haven't bookmarked this?
Oh, my. That's quite a document you have there. @_@

Elmofongo: Mechwarrior?
That I.P. is so very, very hosed. Which is a shame, because I really want Mechwarrior games on GOG. Alas, no. :(

The Ballads of Reemus: When the Bed Bites is a funny way of spelling Banner Saga

PMIK: Weren't the wizardry games released in the last 6-12 months too? And Driftmoon? And thunderscape? and ....
avatar
JudasIscariot: Yes, the Wizardry series was around September I think, Driftmoon was a while back I think, a bit longer than 6 months IIRC, Thunderscape was a bit after Wizardry.

Keep in mind I don't keep the exact dates in my head :P
Wizardry was back in May IIRC. I seem to remember getting super psyched about it because it was around my birthday.

And SotS: The Pit didn't seem like much of an RPG to me.

AND the Mech Commander games AND the Battle Tech RPGs
Yeah, they were based on the FASA tabletop version and FASA was bought by MicroSOFT in the end so the rights are probably locked away in Redmond
ALSO apparently FASA had licensed the designs of some of the Mechs from the Japanese anime series 'Macross' so the games that feature these designs have rights issues from that direction too!

Wasnt there a big argument over that? ie FASA actually copied (not licensed) some of the designs and they ended up having to make sufficient alterations to their own designs so not to infringe? (im a macross fan)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BattleTech

"Original game[edit]

Chicago-based FASA Corporation's original, 1984 BattleTech game focuses on enormous robotic, semi-humanoid battle machines called BattleDroids.[4] The name of the game was changed to BattleTech in the second edition because George Lucas and Lucasfilm claimed the rights to the term "droid"; the machines themselves were renamed BattleMechs from the second edition onwards. The visual design of the earliest line of BattleMechs were taken from Macross and other anime, including many signature images. In later years FASA abandoned these images, and it was common speculation by fans that the decision was the result of a lawsuit brought against them by Playmates and Harmony Gold [USA] over the use of said images.[5] No official broke the silence until 2007, after FASA had sold the BattleTech intellectual property to WizKids Games. Under license from them, the Classic BattleTech line developer for Fantasy Productions, Randall N. Bills explained that FASA had sued Playmates over the use of images owned by FASA, but received no compensation, even though Playmates was ordered to stop using the images in question. After realizing how the use of licensed images made them vulnerable to lawsuits and afraid that such a suit would bankrupt the company, FASA made the decision to only use images owned by them and them alone. The BattleMechs taken from the various anime sources were then considered "Unseen". When Fantasy Productions licensed the property, these "Unseen" images were expanded to include all art produced "out-of-house" – that is, whose copyrights resided with the creators, not the company. Catalyst Game Labs has continued this practice.[6] On 24 June 2009, Catalyst Game Labs announced that they had secured the rights to the "unseen"; as a result, art depicting the original 'Mechs absent from publications for over a decade, can be legally used again.[7] An update on 11 Aug. 2009 has placed the unseen restriction on several designs once again. This update affects only the designs whose images originated from Macross. Designs whose images originated from other anime such as Dougram and Crusher Joe are unaffected by this change and are still no longer considered unseen.[8] By August 2011, the remaining images that were considered to be unseen were returned to unseen status due to continuing problems with license agreements.[9]"

If i recall.. someone mentioned it was mainly the designs of the veritechs from macross in question

Whoops sorry off topic :)

Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries. It's the best of series.

(IMHO. But I'm also right. :P)

Edit: Fun (?) fact: the lead producer on Witcher 3's brother was the senior producer on MW2: Mercenaries. So they carry on a tradition of awesome.

This series was only passable when I played it for free on Newgrounds. This doesn't seem worthy of a full, paid release.

Leroux: snip
Thanks for the info Leroux, sounds like I need to add this to my one-day games list. But in all likelihood I won't be adding it my personal collection. No offense to people who enjoy such things, but I'm mightily weary of self-conscious references and parodies in games these days. And everywhere else, for that matter.
I need to try out these flash games some point.
