The only person who could explain what occurred, a hacke03031 3031303131r whose identity remains classified, has fallen off the 303131303130grid after being recovered as sole survivor. According to his testimony collected by the TriOptimum Security, the3131303031303 station's AI known as SHODAN went rogue and wiped Citadel clean of humans. Mrstarker: I haven't heard many people call SS1 an RPG. SS2 has stuff like stats and skills, but no xp as such -- you can upgrade your stats at specific locations for cybernetic modules that you scavenge and get as a quest reward. Usually people call it an FPS/RPG hybrid or an FPS with RPG elements.
Heh, I've heard most that SS1 is an RPG only right here on GOG (once I started a thread asking for suggestions of cyberpunk RPGs and guess what came up). Yes, SS1 has no XP like SS2, so in my opinion it's the fact that it came from Lord British (Richard Garriott) and Origin and its vague resemblance with Ultima Underworld that made everyone jump to the conclusion that it was an RPG even before playing it, and ignore that it was not even after beating the game. Alas, it's an assumption many people like here.

The "with RPG elements" tag I can accept, it's true in millions of games.
We appear to be well over halfway up the bestsellers list.

hucklebarry: As for prepaids... everyone I have seen does not work outside of the U.S. (where the poster if from). I.E. they don't work with GOG or dotemu as both are outside of the U.S.

If anyone knows of a prepaid that you can buy in the U.S. that works outside, please post it as I'm wanting to close my paypal account and this is the one thing keeping it open.
Ah, didn't know they had that restriction. Well that's unfortunate, gog's in Poland and their bank or whatever is in Cyprus so yeah that 's definitely a problem for those.

Good to know, thanks.
Really glad to see this on here, but as some other people have mentioned the game seems to have been patched with user made patches and mods (eg. ss2tool, new dark). Credit should be given to the people who developed these (and their websites which have helped keeping the ss2 community together all these years) and not just toss them aside. The ''we asked our techmonkeys'', is a really crapy way of ripping people off of their hard work and frankly should be rectified.

yeah, its a bummer :( Vanilla is very popular in my area and this is from their FAQ (i've also tried the Mastercard equivalents, can't recall the name):

"You may use your OneVanilla Card anywhere Visa debit cards or Debit MasterCard is accepted within the fifty United States and District of Columbia; however, it does not include the territories of Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam. The OneVanilla Prepaid Card cannot be used at merchants outside of the United States, including the Internet and mail order/telephone order merchants outside of the United States."
I have never played SS, what do those threes, ones and zeroes mean?

A coded message by gog, first person to decode it got a $9.99 voucher.
I knew you could do it. YahooooooOOOOOOOOooooooooo!
Needless to say this is an instabuy within a femtosecond.
Despite what must be a huge amount of selling judging by the rate SS2 is moving up the list, GOG is holding up impressively well ... have the server gnomes been busy making GOG more robust? :)

They can't really credit the New Dark developers, as they made the unofficial patch anonymously. This is probably to protect the innocent, as the license holders of the Dark Engine (Thief, Thief II, System Shock 2) might not be pleased with them - New Dark uses the source code without permission. Even if it is okay by the people who own the System Shock 2 license, the holders of the Thief license may not approve. :(
The first challenge to my New Years Resolution of not buying any more games after the glut of Amazon, Steam and GMG sales during Black Friday/holidays. Well, this and holding out for a PS Vita.

*looks forlornly at backlog* Wait awhile my pretties, some day I shall dust you all off...
