Like to get medieval on your foes? Now you can do it in HD!

Stronghold HD and Stronghold Crusader HD, two memorable medieval RTS games simulating pre-firearm warfare, newly upgraded with High Definition graphics, are now available on GOG.com, 20% off! That's only $4.79 for Stronghold HD and $7.99 for Stronghold Crusader HD, until Thursday, November 7, at 10:59 AM GMT.

Stronghold, a 2001 real time strategy game, with managerial and simulation elements, was welcomed enthusiastically both by the gamers and the media. It presented an opportunity to become a medieval warlord in charge of a small army, a piece of land, and high ambitions. Up to this day, the game supports quite a large community of fans creating new maps and modifications, that boost the playtime indefinitely. Stronghold Crusader graced the PCs of strategy fans in 2002. It took the multi-layered gameplay of its predecessor and placed it in the setting of the Middle East in the time of Crusades. With great range of things the player had to take care of--including establishing a sustainable economy, erecting a keep and defending it from enemy raids, and finally conquering neighbouring estates--both games presented a worthwhile challenge to strategy fans.

Stronghold HD and Stronghold Crusader HD are the High Definition editions of these two "castle sim" classics. Adjusted to modern displays they allow for much better control of the playfield and deliver awe-inspiring view of life-like medieval landscape. The HD versions will replace the classic editions (Stronghold Crusader HD is also upgraded to the "Extreme" version) and if you already own one or both of them, you now get a free update! If, for whatever reason, you prefer the classic Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader, you can still download them from your shelf. If you didn't have the pleasure to get acquainted with the series, you have no more excuse not to do so, as we offer you each game with a 20% discount!

Did you ever wanted to be adressed as "Sire"? Here's your chance to become a medieval lord! Grab Stronghold HD for only $4.79 and Stronghold Crusader HD for only $7.99.

Before you rush off to get those strategy classics, or if you're already back after buying them, take a moment to listen to the games' developer!

hippox99: FireFly deserves a lot of credits of making this patch! Supporting old classic is awesome! Strong Hold in HD? HELL YES! I am a bit shamed by a couple of persons being completely unappreciative. Not very smart.

In short, awesome patch! Great work and it takes balls to release such a patch when you're making sequel that might not even be as great.
Stronghold Crusader HD makes it better deal
Now if only it was released on Steam so I don't gotta buy again

Seeing how they've yet to succeed in making Stronghold better since these first two, I'm not too optimistic.

Maybe they should focus on something else entirely for a while. Space Colony was the only other game of theirs that was really noteworthy since then, and that's already a nine years old title.

Well, I blame the switch to 3D. It was a too big task for them (such a small team), I feel. I'd rather see them make 2D games again honestly (I love 2D).

J_Darnley: So... This game is exactly the same as Stronghold with exactly the same graphics but just supports higher resolution monitors? That isn't "upgraded with High Definition graphics". That's just a lie! Why would I buy this? Especially since my Stronghold Collection was DRM free (at least CD check free). Why would anyone buy this?
It's an update not a new game. If you already own the game you can just download the patch.
They aren't charging for it.
I always thought (by looking at screenshots) that this game could be great, but never played it. I suppose I'm too deeply committed to Medieval 2: Total War when it comes to medieval sparring.

I suppose Stronghold is already VERY widely available (even here in Brazil it's in every bargain bin out in the market), but this only shows this release was long overdue.
Oh wow. I'd seen the announcement but had assumed it was a distinct product, and didn't bother reading about it, so I was delighted when I saw I had a new update available, checked my shelf to see which game it was, and discovered that I now had Stronghold HD as well as the original. That rocks! Thanks, Firefly & GOG :)
It's a shame only the screen resolution is changed. It still needs something like Gameranger to play online. And there are lots of people playing Stronghold Crusader online.
So glad that when amazon.com had the stronghold collection for sale earlier in the summer i chose the DRM free version and not steam, as you can download a patch for the DRM version but not yet steam :)
Free update is very nice indeed - thanks GoG!

So? As long as it works well, which it does. It's much easier and in some ways better to get a multiplayer match going with that than trying to use the in-game networking options.
Can't wait for space colony HD :)

That's my point, the in-game networking doesn't work. To play with a friend you both have download extra clients, create accounts etc. It would have been better if you could just play multiplayer through the game menu. I guess maybe they couldn't fix it or something. I'm not complaining too much either way.
Does anyone know why Gamershell has an updated version of the HD update? As in this http://www.gamershell.com/download_95329.shtml vs. http://www.gamershell.com/download_95877.shtml
