An Indy platformer.

Spelunky, an addictive, highly-polished roguelike platformer full of arcade challenge, high adventure in randomly generated stages, and heaps of ancient treasures gleaming in the dark, is available 10% off on GOG.com. That's only $13.49 for the first week!

EXTRA! Don't miss our Website Spelunking Challenge! Find golden idols on GOG.com and win one of the cute Spelunky Minis!

A hat, a whip, an attitude, and hunger for adventure--that's all it takes to start your amazing journey into the ominous depths of the ancient temple. The legend has it, that the place holds--among its many secrets--the ultimate treasure of a lost civilization. Beware, though: the underground is swarming with strange monsters and it's full of traps that will end your adventure in the goriest, bloodiest possible ways. There's magic in these caverns and walls, though, that twists time and space. You'll be doomed to repeat your attempts at braving the trap-filled rooms again, and again--and each time they will look different. Such is the amazing power of this place. Will you dare to explore it?

Spelunky is a platformer that challenges you to beat a series of proceduraly-generated stages. Easy as it may seem at first, the task proves to be extremely challenging. Every step you take without dying is a success, and the exit seems to elude you in every level. Trying to grab as many riches on the way, rescue a girl or a boy trapped somewhere near, and make it to the end of the stage in a given time takes more than a little practice. With sleek 2D graphics, great gameplay diversity provided by many power-ups and special locations, and difficulty level that gets really extreme at times, this game will keep you entertained for many, many hours.

If you're the type of person who likes to laugh danger in the face, perform daring rescues, explore ancient ruins, and hunt for unimaginable riches, take on the life of a archaeologist/adventurer in Spelunky, for only $13.49! The 10% off discount offer will last until Thursday, August 15, at 9:59AM GMT.

keeveek: Another week without classic release, huh? So much for "at least one classic a week, we promisssss!"

But I guess what GOG really needs is 2d indie platformers that will hit Humble Bundle in less than a month.
Yes, the summer heat is just killing me, I could do with a nice refreshing shower about now! ;P

I really wanted daily challenge, but DRM-free is very important and OSTs sealed the deal.
Hmm.... do not care so much about the OST, so I guess the daily challenge is the deal breaker for me, sorry.

jamyskis: Yeah, I do wish a blue would finally make some kind of statement about why they haven't kept to this promise.
For me it's not about keeping promisses, I just don't care about new or indies on this site... I used to get excited every week for the release. Now I'm starting to get to a point that I couldn't care less. For me it was Always about the classics and to be honest these last few weeks (months) there wasn't anything special (even amongst the classics they released). So I understand these sentiments and to be honest I find no reason to downvote them. They are genuine concerns for people who love this site for what it was set out to do...

Yes, it's a little bit pitty, but perhaps GOG don't believe in great sales after the summer sale and during the vacation time.

Austrobogulator: Does this include daily challenges?

TurnipSlayerr: Afraid not. It does however include both the new and classic soundtracks.
Turnip Slayerr? What do you have against Turnips? If you are Deamon Cleaner you supposed to be slaying pure evil right? Anyway, congrats on a very quirky name...

Yeah that's another problem with these indies or newer games here. Because they are DRM free or for whatever reason there are a lot of them that are inferior to their counterparts. Maybe not a huge amount but enough to notice.
Very happy about this coming to GOG. Played the original and loved it, so really looking forward to the update.

Will have to wait a few weeks, though, as a) broke and b) I just can't handle having one more game in the massive backlog :)

funny this got downrated even though it's completely true.

and who in their right mind buys indies outside of bundles anymore? i'd feel stupid paying $13 for a game you'll be able to purchase for as little as $1 after a few months or even weeks.
Picked it up. The classic version is a fine game, and having an even better version that isn't stuck with DRM is awesome. Downloaded and will be played. :)

It's still better than indie games that hit the Humble Bundle several months ago, which seems to be the more frequently used option.

Well isn't it obvious that turnips are pure evil then?

EDIT: Also, this is the reason for the Demon Cleaner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaeUak_35VU

And I'd feel like a cheapskate if I would pay less than $1 for a game that gives me dozens of hours of fun.
Ah Spunky, good to see you here but not $15 good.
