Be a Goal-Scoring Superstar Hero!

Sensible World of Soccer, the ultimate installment of the 1990s favorite pixelated sports game, with in-depth management options and over 29 000 real-life players you can pick for your dream-team, is now available on GOG.com, for only $5.99.

This game occupies a unique place in history: considered Best Amiga Game of All Time (by Amiga Power) and included in Stanford University's list of "the ten most important video games of all time" alongside such groundbreaking titles as Space Wars, Tetris, SimCity and Doom, there is more to this sports game than you might think. So what makes it such an amazing title? It combines an elegant simplicity of gameplay--there are eight directions of travel and single key to pass, shoot, head, and interact with the game--with authenticity and a deep career mode, where you must manage an entire soccer club or team as well as play the games.

In Sensible World of Soccer the controls are simple, but don't think the game is easy; it realistically models all of the players who were active in the sport at the time, and while if your finger-twitching skills aren't up to snuff you can still watch your team's games unfold in Coach Mode, you'll find that the A.I. poses a respectable challenge regardless of whether you're playing on the field or managing your team in the league.

Don't be fooled by the fact that this football--erm, soccer--game lacks the features of the most recent FIFA games Sensible World of Soccer is a true gem, and one that clearly has inspired the entire genre of sports games. Get it now for only $5.99 on GOG.com.

JudasIscariot: And done. Thanks again :D
Np :) I'm trying to keep track of such things here http://www.gog.com/forum/general/completionists_list_of_missing_games_from_gog_series/page1

keremix: Would you also fix this one? http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/wing_commander_secret_ops

This is actually the expansion to Wing Commander Prophecy and they are not released here yet. I think it was marked as "completed" because it was confused with Wing Commander: The Secret Missions which is an expansion for the original Wing Commander (different games).

I guess I'll play it on Amiga then :)

If you're working on the wishlist I noticed that there are entries for NOLF and NOLF 2 but then a third entry for
'NOLF 1 &2'
This one needs to go away

(not sure what you'd do with the votes for it if anything though...)

JudasIscariot:
What sort of screen shot is this?!

That can't be the right score!

Is there a way to enable gamepad/joystick via the MACOS version or is it limited to keyboard?

Cheers ;)

keremix: also does anyone know which version is the superior version of Sensible World of Soccer 96/97?
DOS or Amiga?

StarEye: Amiga version is from what I've played of the DOS version so far, about a million times better. I was hoping it wasn't so bad, but I can't say I'm impressed by the DOS version. Seems to run much slower than the Amiga version, and a lot less smooth (though that's no surprise, as it was one Amigas strengths).

Unless there's something wrong, I'm not even sure it's worth playing if you can get the Amiga version. The DOS version has commentators though, which is good for a laugh (and still better than PES commentators). I'm not getting any sound effects when kicking the ball, which must be wrong. In fact, it sounds like the game has lost half of the sound effects.
While all of my Sensible Soccer was played on an Amiga in the 90s, this DOS version plays exactly how I remember it. Normally my rose tinted spectacles work the other way round and I'm disappointed by certain games when I revisit them decades later but it's not the case with SWOS today. Perhaps my age is compensating for the slowdown!

I wonder if anyone has played the Amiga version recently and can comment on the differences?

JudasIscariot: Fixed. Thanks for the clarification. :)

It's part of Prophecy Gold (which they desperately need to do), so if they get that it doesn't really need it's own listing.

Of course there are three different listings for Prophecy...

edit: sorry, make that five.

reaver894: Genuine question.

Did anyone log in todays and see this game and think "oh I gotta buy that ive been waiting for GoG to release it" ?

philarmitage: Yes, fastest purchase I've ever made on GOG!

Sensible Soccer (any 90's version) is on my top 10 games of all time list and one of my most hoped for games on GOG. I was really surprised some people hadn't heard of it although I imagine it was more popular in Europe (due to the popularity of the Amiga) and even more so in the UK where Sensible Software are from.

This is by far my happiest day as a GOG customer - thanks GOG!
Fair enough, I was hoping the answer would be no but meh. If everyone liked the same things life would be boring.
One of my favorite games of all time! :)
Thanks gog.
if I wanted one more Codemasters title, that would be Pete Sampras Tennis 97. I wonder if anyone else remembers this.

I play SWOS on the Amiga regularly, and you already quoted my post. Perhaps you shouldn't just assume I'm talking out of my ass. ;)
Love the GOG COM vs. DRM screenshot! Clever.

JudasIscariot: The seperate languages for SWOS 96/97 can be found in your Start menu. So the path is Start > GOG.com > Sensible World of Soccer > your language preference. I hope that helps :D
Yes. Thank you!
Great game! Still play it on my amiga with my 7 year old. Its very simple so kids can easily learn it.

But real men play Goal!
Well, I guess we can´t have gems every Thursday :)
