Speed that'll make you scream.

Screamer 2, the classic arcade racing game that detailed tracks and great driving physics, is available on GOG.com, for only $5.99.

I remember the first time my dad took me to see the race. There was this street closed for traffic, so it would make a part of the race track. The place where we were standing was near a tight curve, going around a corner of a building. I was six years old, so my dad had to put me up on his shoulders so I could see the track above the other spectators' heads. First, I heard the engines roar. Then, the people further up the track started cheering. I started to cheer as well, but then I thought that I don't really know who am I cheering. I tried to see the number on the first car, but it has already passed us. The other cars zoomed past us and were disappearing around the corner as well. All that was left, was the smell of the burning rubber in the air. My dad realised that he didn't pick a very good spot for us to watch the race. "Did you even get the chance to look at the cars? Don't worry. They'll be doing another lap soon"--he said. But all I could reply was: "they were going sooooo fast!".

Screamer 2 brings all the emotions you could expect from a racing game by creating a great illusion of speed and inertia. There are many diverse tracks for you to compete on with computer-controlled drivers, and each of them will amaze you with its detailed design that profoundly impressed the gamers when the game was first released. With 20 customisable high-performance race cars at your disposal and a sleek physics engine that allows for inconceivable maneuvers, Screamer 2 is a must-see for all the racing game fans. The GOG.com version comes bundled with the memorable techno soundtrack.

Get ready for some excessive speed and grab Screamer 2, for only $5.99!
I only play racing games where I can shoot missiles at the other cars, so this doesn't really seem like my kind of thing.
So many racing games...
Release Wacky Wheels or Ignition/Bleifuss Fun and maybe we'll talk. ;-)
BTW the description is wrong, isn't it? the game doesn't feature 20 different cars. the 4 racing teams all have the same 4 base cars (Porsche, NSX, Supra, MX5) plus a bonus car (which might be unique to each team).

so you have either 5 or 8 different cars, but not 20.
Ah, there it is!

There is two more Screamers, Screamer Rally and Screamer 4x4. I never played those ones long enough to really give an opinion though.

I second this opinion. That'd be an instabuy if anything.

Actually, wait, if Ignition get here, I'm worried I might pull out my card faster than its mass allows and it might get ripped in two in an effort to adhere to the laws of physics. I need to prepare and memorise the number so I don't need the actual card when the time comes.
Is this one any better then Screamer 1? I played the first one since it was in first tier and I thoughts was that the game was average

During it's time Screamer 1 was the best arcade racer you could get you hands on. Now it has some drawbacks but there is still some fun into it.
Screamer 2 is greatly enhanced. Handling is different, the graphics is better but the sense of speed remains. I haven't played much of Screamer 2 so I can't comment more. But now I have the occasion to play the hell out of it and make an idea...

how about a competition? :D the same as with the first installment ;)
Fantastic release, i have so many fond memories playing this game back in late 1996.

The 3DFX version wasn't in the original release, it came later as a patch, like Dungeon Keeper it didn't really make that much difference if your PC was fast enough for the high resolution/high detail mode.

Screamer Rally next please, which was developed as a 3DFX game from the outset. :)

Great release. Only game that I miss from Interplay. Wished.
so, no time attack competition here? are you sure? I'm waiting for an excuse to buy the game! (even though the original is laying on my shelf next to me...)

Now that would be sweet!
Competition by popular demand! C'mon GOG!

Well it made the difference of replacing sharp blocky pixels with bilinear filtered ones :)

It's all about preference.
Great release, just figured there is a little mistake in the product page : the game is developed by Milestone, not Graffiti. I know it's the same studio, but Graffiti changed its name in Milestone for this game. At least it is written Milestone in the splash screen.
