Rugged Rogue Redux!

Jack Keane, an adventure game full of daring deeds, valiant ventures, and sinister schemes that you will take on with Jack's trademark roguish charm, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the first week!

Witness Jack's first grand adventure! Well, the first we have a record of, anyway. It's hard to say how his adventuring career actually started, as his past remains uncertain. It's suspected that he's an orphan and that he spent his early life on London's streets. He is no stranger to theft and mischief, but all who know him can attest that Jack's heart is in the right place and his soul is pure. How did he become a defender of the British Empire, a treasure hunter, and a famous traveler--nobody knows. Maybe this story can give us some answers?

Jack Keane is an adventure game full of movie-like qualities. We have a handsome protagonist who laughs in the face of danger while he saves the day and gets the girl. We have a beautiful heroine who, in turn, saves the hero. We have a gallery of villains plotting against our heroes' homeland, and a cast of supporting characters ready to deliver comedic relief. With colorful graphics, zany plot twists, and original story, Jack Keane is a worthy entry in any adventure fan's game collection!

High adventure calls as the British Empire calls upon its defender, Jack Keane. Witness it all for only $4.99 on GOG.com! The 50% discount offer lasts until Thursday, August 8, at 12:59PM GMT.

Roman5: nice to have this here

can you also complete all other incomplete series?

Legacy of Kain? Journeyman project? System shock? Settlers?
System Shock 1 has been free, with no DRM with a good Dosbox wrapper for years.

The Legacy of Kain series is complete as far as the Eidos titles go. The only game missing, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, is owned by Activision, as of now. Crystal Dynamics developed all the titles in the series, the first with Silicon Knights (a studio that's in shambles and existing in name only, after the huge flops that were Too Human and X-Men: Destiny, and ultimately the lost lawsuit against Epic), but they don't have distribution rights. From Soul Reaver onwards, all titles have been released by Eidos Interactive (now Square Enix), so, while GOG came to an agreement with Eidos/Square Enix regarding their LoK titles, the same can't be said about Activision and the title they still retain rights over.

It's really petty of some users to just demand game after game out of GOG, as if it was that easy dealing with these corporations. I, too, want Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, Loom, etc. so bad, but LucasArts/Disney/Electronic Arts/whomever holds the rights to LucasArts games is being really clingy and stubborn, and those games might take a while to be available in here. I trust that GOG is doing everything in their power to get these games on their library, but the problem is that a lot of companies still don't want to do business with them, or they let GOG sell some of their games, but not others. Companies are not charities, they are businesses, it's not like meeting a friend for coffee and lightly discussing rights to games with everyone agreeing to it because they're all "friends".

Not legally free. People want legal, legitimate copies of good old games; I think a desire for that + DRM-free helped GOG flourish during its early years. (although I wasn't around, so people can correct me if they honestly believe I'm wrong)

gandalf.nho: Nothing for me today. Hope next week is better in terms of old games (Where are the remaining of the Apogee/3D Realms games? Or the old Epic classics pre-Unreal days?)
Jazz Jackrabbit was apparently published by Gathering of Developers, now part of Take 2. So I guess we won't see Jazz until Take 2 arrives.

I'd like to see GOG put the smakedown on Apogee and/or 3DRealms, and negotiate new deals, ones that are priced like Steam. (Didn't they release several bundles recently for 10 bucks that would cost 18 or 24 dollars here? -_-) I know DRM-free costs more, but GOG has established itself as a strong seller and a legit way to combat piracy, so surely they should be able to fight the current pricing. (well, obviously that's on the assumption that the games would sell better with lower prices here or as part of a bundle)

Alfie3000: Who is this "Kiss Label" publisher? and does Gene Simmons know about them? If not then I foresee legal action in the future.
I can only imagine it is these guys: http://www.kiss-ltd.co.uk/.

Kiss is also a common english word, not sure if it is possible to trademark it. Just imagine what would happen if people started trying to trademark common words, lets say like edge or scrolls or something...

*blinks*

Wait a second. Kiss Label? As in Kiss LTD? Didn't this publisher get in trouble with an indie developer because they never paid royalties or something?

Edit: Well, not them directly, but they were involved with the company that didn't pay off the devs - Lace Mamba.

Technically SS1 is an example of the made-up term abandonware, not freeware, which means it is not free and all downloads of it is legally piracy. Though the wrapper was made with some of the developers blessings (I seem to remember) , the developers doing so did not actually own the IP, and could not make it freeware.

Who does own it now days? I think Origin had the IP, but they closed down in '04, not sure where it ended up.

They where involved with them, and took over some developers Lace Mamba screwed over. AFAIK there has not been any complaints about Kiss itself yet.

Fred_DM: why were people here hoping for Blade of Destiny HD? from what I've been reading it's pretty much the worst release of the year so far...
I think that (dis)honor goes to Ride to Hell: Retribution. ;)

I figure that both games are strong contenders...
After Jack Keane 2's release this was necessary :) Good job.
